Whenever you see "Mark my words" in the thread title, you know it's going to be something that'll get everyone else pointing at their monitors and laughing. Or in this case, "Mark my word" -- because I suppose he only has one.
Talking about that - what exactly has Logo really achieved as GM? Very overrated. Mind you he offered Stro an extension (IIRC) but I digress.... He lucked into Shaq because Shaq fell with folks in the Orlando organization. He chose LA....rather than Logo pulling some klind of genius move. Kobe, pulled an "Elway" on Charlotte. He told the Honets that he will never play for them and that he should be traded to either NY or LA. Logo offered Vlade and the deal was done. So what exactly again in terms of personnel make Logo stand out? He is overrated......enjoying a world of unwarranted goodwill (maybe because of his HOF career). That said, Stro will be better than Candyman. It is not even going to be close. C'mon now Pelican.
Don't you guys hate it when people "force" their own opinions on us? Please, no more "Mark my word" threads.
another thing, the terms of the contract are alot more favorable. the midlevel Olowakandi signed was like 6 years 40+ million this is one year and 10 million less. Plus for a player joining a much more complete team than minnesota had at the time.
In his last year as a Clipper, Kandi was a blackhole who didn't know the system he worked in, so he did the same moves again and again (turn around fade or layup) to pad his stats. He only showed signs of promise or athleticism when he was playing against Shaq. To compare him with Swift shows that you need to watch more basketball before making stupid comparisons.
Wrong. He turned down 6 years at 42 mil from Denver and signed with Minn. for 3 years at 15 mil. This is the last year of his contract.
i'M REALLY HAPPY..... We got Swift for the same money we pay Spoon now- well spent.... As far as Jerry West- was a great player- manic depressive........Strange individual, no disrespect.... We have an athletic - mobile power forward who can sky walk with a 40" vertical leap-fast as lightning who can block shots and take pressure off Yao in the paint rebounding. Seems like Christmas came early to Rockets fans
didnt kandi come off of 2 knee injuries b4 signing his deal....he could of lost most of his atheticism from that and he was injury prone too...
Pelican has dissappeared...... I don't think this deal can ever be seen as a bust unless Swift goes off the deep end, ala EG. For the price, we got exactly what the team needed.
Personally, I think all the "logo" praise is a bit much. I mean as already stated he did luck out with a number of his moves in LA. Now with Memphis....what has he done? He has used the MLE and his draft picks to amass assets (Posey, Cardinal, Bonzi, and a bunch of guard draft picks of which I dont even know their names!). Some of those assets have panned out, some have not. And dont forget the Gooden draft pick! That was a killer for them. They salvaged it a bit with the Miller trade, but still. He hasnt made any significant trades to help out the team though and that's where he has failed! Where is Gasol's running mate? I think everyone in the league is afraid to trade with West. And I think West is afraid to take a gamble on a trade where he might get less talent in return. We keep waiting to see the 2 for 1, 3 for 1 trades but never do. All West has done is increased the roster payroll and added average role players to a team that already has an abundance of rolel players. Now this summer he is going to lose Swift, Bonzi and Watson and probably for minimal assets in return. Back to the topic at hand.....Swift to me has a much better work ethic than Kandi and I think that's what is going to set him apart. He will fit in here with Tmac and Yao. He wont be a star, but he will be an important role player that will augment our star's games.
Swift is much more of a team player than Kandi. Kandi was all about the money. He spent his entire time in LA looking out for himself, padding his stats, and not caring about helping his team get wins. Swift has proven he's not all about the money by taking a contract less than his worth. He's proven in Memphis that he is a team player. He doesn't care about padding his stats. He's always looking to help his teammates on the court and try and win games. Almost any other player in Swift's situation would have forced a trade a long time ago by sulking and complaining about never getting a chance to start.
