Steve obviously doesn't like it. He said something along the lines of "If he can sign, I guess anybody can sign a 10 day. I don't know..maybe we can sign my brother to a 10 day contract?" Hmm...
Halleluejah !! I have been on this BBS all year asking for us to pick him up. Steve needs to learn from someone and MJ is a VERY smart PG. DD
That's an interesting comment to make. You came to that conclusion all by yourself from me saying that Jackson was classless for what he did to Stockton, who by the way is one of the greatest PGs ever. So by sticking up for one of the best PGs in history....I hate PGs.
AMEN!! 1. if anyone thinks we're pushing steve to the two with a 40+ (or is it 90+?) year old who can barely play half a game, you are crazy. 2. if you think we are moving either guard with the hopes of mark jackson filling in for one of them, you are crazy. 3. outside of those crazy thoughts, i like this move. it would be nice if steve could catch more than 2 minutes of rest each night which i believe is how much he's had each of the last two games. and in the 4.5 minutes wilks has played, we've score 3 points. plus, since piatkowski has decided he will have the largest dropoff from one year to the next imaginable (make a ****ing wide open shot once in a while!!!) we can't even rest cat anymore so having a competent 3rd guard would be nice. here's hoping if he comes that it works out and he plays semi-effectively while on the court and teaches steve a thing or two off of it.
Mark Jackson will practice with Yao a whole lot to make sure they've got their pass and catch game down pat. They will look good on the court as Mark Jackson can pass through tougher defenses meaning Yao will get easier baskets. Yao will then lobby to play with Mark Jackson more. Mark Jackson ends up getting more minutes as the season goes on especially when Yao is on the court. The rift happens.
Isnt the team at Boston tomorrow - or do they still bring players in for workouts even though all the coaches and trainers are out of town
Dude's only 38. That's not too old. I couldn't imagine him playing much longer than a year or two, but he's young enough for this to be a decent year.
I like Mike Wilks. Didn't have an opinion either way for moochie since he didn't play enough to make a meaningful difference. I don't like Francis cause he represents everything that is wrong with the NBA today. The selfish, arrogant attitude. His streetballing mentality. His constant whining to officials, even though he's already said once he's going to stop that. His sulking about moochie getting traded and wearing that armband for a long time, which is a slap in the face to the organization. The list goes on and on.
when jax was in his second stint with theknicks a few years ago, he made them a good passing team within games of his arrival. every guard was making that extra pass, quick no-look passes, touch passes. i thought we need that. and now we have it. our front office did something good this time!!!
let me go on the record and say that I think Mark Jackson will be a better fit than Charlie Ward would have been. Both are past their prime, and neither will be this teams savior, but I think that in limited minutes Mark will give us a glimpse of whether a true point will really help or not.
Can I get my hopes up that this would mean we can move out Steve Francis? Probably a bit early for that, I guess. But this is a clear signal to Steve: you don't cut it as a point guard. Even when he nets 10 assists, we still have to watch the endless dribbling, the turnovers. If I do remember correctly, Mark Locker-Room-Lawyer Jackson had all the lateral mobility of a brownstone, even when young. So Cato and Yao might be prone to even more foul trouble trying to erase Jackson's defensive lapses. Still, he can set up a play and hopefully not masturbate the basketball.
I think he's at LEAST as good a defender as Moochie, 10 times the passer, 10 times the leader, and at least as good a scoring option. To me, that means we improved, and that's what matters. But as I pointed out before, the reward will come from him instructing Steve Francis. As mentioned above though, let's hope Francis is man enough to take it.
