Oakley? Are you kidding me, he barely can play some mins when he is in Wizards. He is done. But Jackson did have some quality mins when he backup Flopton, still get 3-4 asts per game when he played for Utah, which is good for a backup. But he has no D and slow so I don't want to see him playing more than 13mins (Moochie mins) per game
i don't know about this. i like the idea of bringing in a quality back up PG, but I'm pretty sure I can take Jackson off the dribble at will.
Just saw on the bottom line on NBA TV that a player (Jackson?) was going to try out for the rockets on Thursday and could play on Saturday. Missed the name. If he's been out this long I doubt he would play for us anytime soon but I like the addition. Hopefully Spoon will play soon too so we can all ourselves the Houston Knicks (not an improvement!).
ehy if jackson can pass the water bottle good he is welcome to ours bench if not let okley grab the hole can and drinking himself bring one of them home babe
David Aldridge just reported on NBA fastbreak Marc Jackson will come to Houston for a workout tomorrow. Looks like it's going to happen...
David Aldridge confirmed the Rockets are looking at Mark Jackson. He said he'll be in tomorrow morning for a workout in Houston while the Rockets play the Celts in Boston. He said JVG is absolutely not happy with the point guard position right now and desperately wanted to get Charlie Ward but that Ward wanted to play for San Antonio more instead. I know it's not wise to read into what a sports analyst says but I wonder if that means he's trying to get rid of Steve possibly, or seriously try and find an adequate PG to push Steve to the 2.
Yeah LB. It was pretty funny to also hear him mention JVG was grouching and griping and very unhappy with the high turnovers from the guards tonight. Can't say I blame him when the previous game was lost because of way too many turnovers. I almost get the feeling that Mark Jacskon may be coming in and he's going to move one of our guards.
David Aldridge says that the Rockets are bringing in Jackson (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mark_jackson/?nav=page) for a workout in Houston tomorrow. Last year with Utah, he was #3 in the league at assists per 48 minutes played at 12.3 (though he only played 18 minutes per game). On the other hand, he was #1 in turnovers per 48 mins played with 4.97. Don't know if another turnover-prone guard is what we need (especially one who was born in the Truman administration).
Except that he's signed for Minny... yes - I know who you really meant! - I just find it funny that everytime Mark Jackson is talked about, the name Marc Jackson turns up!!
It's not just the turnovers but the small things like setting up a play quicker which eats up less of the clock. Getting dribble happy around the perimeter when he tries to look for his shot which pretty much isolates his teammates away from helping him score points. Or the bad passes that don't result in turnovers but turn into bad plays. An example if when he dribbles the ball for 10 seconds, eventually shakes his defender and drives in the lane, finds two big men clogging the paint ready to block his shot while he's in midair and at the last moment opts for a bad pass around the perimeter. That kills any hopes for ball movement and limits the team to one option at a perimeter jumpshot. Other things that don't necessarily account for turnovers as well that he doesn't always execute well are running the fastbreak that should of been two easy points that instead had to be set back up in a halfcourt offense that won't result in a guaranteed bucket. It's not always about the turnovers but kind of looks you get your teammates in the process. I always have the feeling that when your floor general is fumbling around with the ball and playing incosistent it's contagious for the rest of the team and results in their bad play as well. Each player should hold up to their own performance but when your floor general controls the ball as much as Francis does, it does become contagious to take bad shots and make bad decisions. I'm not expecting Mark Jackson to become the team's savior if we do sign him, but having a guy that could handle the ball when Francis gets out of control would definitely be nice.
When Mark Jackson signs up, he's going to make for damn sure he passes to Yao. He's an older player who realizes he needs to latch onto a star player. He'll make sure Yao gets the ball when he wants it. Mark Jackson is a skilled passer, so he might be able to thread those passes into Yao even when he is defended well.
A 3 guard rotation of SF, CM & MJ would be fine. SF & CM with 35 minutes, MJ with 20 and Wilks with the other 6. I really think Cat & Steve need to play less than 40 minutes.
Mark Jackson is old, but passing skills aren't as easily eroded as quickness. He should still be able to pass. He's not Jason Kidd, but he going to be the best passer on this team by far.
Does anybody recall me saying TWO YEARS AGO that we should sign Jackson to teach Francis how to play the point? I don't know how much help Jackson will be now, if he'll help at all, but it's nice to see the Rockets sign a true PASS 1ST, SHOOT 2ND POINT GUARD!!!
