The guy was a musical genius, supreme songwriter, and someone who always put his music above all the other publicity, and crap that goes along with the music industry. He will absolutely be missed.
Saw them at the Music Hall back n the day....Opening up for the PFurs...We were up close on this night, and he was up and down the aisles...I thought, how can Richard Butler & Co. top this? But, they did. What a night. RIP Brother.
I hadn't listened to his solo album, but I will now. The music was so ahead of its time. If some of those albums came out now, people would say it was a band heavily influenced by Radiohead. You can hear why Matt Johnson was a big fan.
Why bc they had 2 of the same names too, like the the? j/k! You can argue that talk talk started 'post rock' with their last 2 Lp's, although the 1st Slint Lp wants a word as well.
Well, this is shocking. Just the other day I stumbled across the last couple of Talk Talk albums, and was amazed at how different they were from the first couple of Talk Talk records I remember from the 80's. Just a completely unexpected transformation. Sorry to hear this sad news. He wasn't all that old.
I knew his brother was a heroin junkie, and the song "I Believe in You" was supposedly a plea for him to kick the heroin addiction. I didn't know that he had a history with it.
I still hear this song on Sirius 1st Wave and it always brings back memories of the song being played at #'s with the video on the screen. Great memories. RIP.
