Is this rumor even real? Just now on espn I heard that Chris Paul will re-sign with the Clippers and won't bother meeting with teams. So Dumping Lin will not make sense., unless if there's a trade for Rondo. I rather trade for Aldridge because we need a 4 so bad.

Lin's not going anywhere. The Rockets have upcoming pre-season games scheduled in Taiwan. They're obviously leveraging Lin's popularity overseas for marketing purposes. Do you really think they'll show up there with no Lin on the team? That would be like a slap in the face to Taiwanese fans.

I don't think a single preseason game in Taiwan is going to have any kind of effect. Yeah, Lin's a marketing stud, but winning championships also helps your marketing draw in the Orient, just ask Kobe.

Yeah...cause they really care a lot about the taiwanese fans instead of team building.

If our team gets better, we will just have to that L.

Lin made Tyson Chandler look like a competent offensive player at one point. It would be interesting to see if he could help with Dwights game.

I can just see Parson, Harden, and Lin just laying the ball up or lobbing to MR HOWARD for the dunk.

Our offense should be nice. If Harden can play some defense next year, than I think we can compete with Miami/OKC.

Because Dwight Howard and James Harden don't sell tickets right?

Rockets play 41 regular season games in Houston each season. It would be a slap in the face of Houston fans if they didn't do what is best for team because of preseason games in Taiwan would be embarrassing.

I think they would take the PR hit of not having Lin if it meant having Dwight AND player(s) they feel can help elevate their chances of winning it all.

The fans might be disappointed, but I still think they would be plenty excited to see guys like Harden, Howard, Parsons etc...

I think there is a real possibility that Lin gets traded, but Lin's absence in the meeting has little to do with that.. It's hard to say "you have this huge marketing potential in Asia because we have Lin" when Lin's sitting there.

My idea for a potential trade between Boston and Houston

    Lin for Lee

With Rondo starting the season on IR, Boston takes Lin. More salary than Lee but Lin is on a shorter deal and would be an expiring contract the following season(tradeable asset).
Lin could have some positive PR in Boston having played at Harvard.

Rockets get Lee and additional cap space to offer Dwight max. Even though we traded him last season, we're able to reacquire him after July 1.
Gives us wing depth and a player that is familiar with our team, coaching staff, city. (doesn't hurt that he trains with Parsons and is good friends with Dwight)

It makes good sense, a wing 3 and D guy who is buddies with Howard. I'm not sure Morey would do it, lee's longer deal would jeopardize the cap space needed for a big 3 when Lin and Asik come off the books together. Actually it makes you wonder if Morey has that plan or not.

If you could do this and drop Jones or Dmo instead of TRob then I'm all for it.

Houston has two primary needs in the event that Dwight chooses to be a Rocket:

    1. A few million dollars in extra cap space to pay Dwight his max (the actual # won't be released by the NBA until July 10, 2013).

    2. A starting PF-- possibly a "Spread 4" or even a SF playing PF or sharing that duty with Chandler Parsons.

If Lin gets traded, it will most likely be to fill one of these two needs. My guess is that the Rockets prefer it to be the latter, and that they prefer to get the cap space by shipping Robinson. Even leaving aside their actual NBA abilities, Lin's higher, but still reasonable, salary makes it easier for the Rockets to take back a high salary (and likely higher level) player to fill the starting PF need.

Is there absolutely no way Dwight will take a slight pay cut so we can keep our players?

I definitely think the granger or iggy play with parsons to pf is a legit plan they might try.

Anything is possible, but it's better to put yourself in the position to have the funds. He might take it as a sign of disrespect.

The other name that comes to mind in that price range:

    Luol Deng.

Deng wasn't at his best offensively last year while logging HEAVY minutes with an injury, but the guy is a very good and smart two way player. Not a superstar, but someone you'd like to have on your side. He also has a history working with Chris Finch on the Britain national team.

Chicago is in the tax territory and has little flexibility without dumping some salary. Trading Deng for Lin would do this for them. They also have a decent "Deng Replacement" in Jimmy Butler and can use a guard with some offensive punch off the bench after likely losing both Nate Robinson and Marco Bellinelli.

Interesting thought -- though to make the numbers work, the Rockets would have to add a million or so in salary (and that'd be after fitting in Dwight Howard). Assuming Robinson goes, it could be done with one of the other PFs (Jones or D-Mo), though I'd hate to lose those guys too. You'd then have a whole at the PG slot as well as depth at the forwards.

Chicago was also one of the teams allegedly interested in T-Rob.
