Cuban was kinda a douche too. He implied that everything we see on tv is the result of coaching and strategy in-game and none of it was due to the subjective effort and desire that players give/ have that viewers (including the media) sometimes sense.

I mean obviously you can tell if some players are slacking on defense or pouting when they don't have enough touches, etc. So I don't completely agree with Cuban.

Making Bayless feel dumb when he grilled him about the defensive questions was funny though.

i think cuban was trying to say if a player is playing in the nba finals there isn't a question of want or who is playing harder because that's what every player dreams of doing and works for.

It is certainly rare to see a team with less effort in the Finals...usually those teams are eliminated early on...

But it does seem like it has happened before. The recent Pistons-Lakers series comes to mind.

Great players don't need to be "put in a position to succeed". You give them the ball and they succeed. Jordan, Olajuwon, Shaq, Bird, Magic - how hard is it to put those guys in a position to succeed? Just give them the ball, that's all you have to do.

Cuban is trying to give more credit to himself and the staff he assembled than they deserve. That's all this is. They had the best player on the court in Dirk, and some good defenders. That and LBJ wilting (which he didn't do this year) is why they won. He says it's harder to find the right coach than the right players - this is another way to claim more credit than he deserves, since he picked the coach. Morey's philosophy is the complete opposite, and is more right IMO.

Having said all that, I hate Bayless with a passion, and I agree Cuban made him look bad. That's the only reason I watch First Take all the time, to see if Bayless will get exposed (I'm a sucker, I know). I love Cuban and don't understand why anyone wouldn't.

This is sort of what Cuban was dismissing Bayless for in regards to Lebron James. When people often emphasize it was because Lebron wasn't good enough or couldn't handle the pressures of the NBA Finals. It could've been true or not, yet in the entire process, alot of people sort dismissed the Mavericks and their performance against the Heat. I agree with Cuban, we concentrated our defense into giving him worst opportunities and lower percentage shots., while the supporting cast did not necessarily come through for the Heat.

Cuban actually went into realistic game strategies of how they slowed down the Lebron and the rest of the Heat -- mostly alot of zone and the stroke of favor with the Heat not hitting their outside shots. The Mavs had great strategy for beating the Head, and things went their way.

It was anything magical that the Mavs did, or anything magical that the Heat did not do. It was like Mavs beat LeBron James, more so than the Miami Heat.

Honestly, if the Heat role players played the way that they did in this NBA Finals, they could've easily turned that series around.

Bayless doesn't get mad or even agitated by Cuban calling him out... shows you it's just a schtick Bayless is running. At least Justice pretends to get angry when people call him out.

    nice, very nice.

Tyson Chandler was the reason Lebron couldn't have his way vs. DAL last year. Then you have the phenomenal hot-shooting of Dirk and Terry. Those were Heat killers last year.

This. I mean, I don't think he likes being called an idiot, but it's all in the game; and I'm pretty sure I'd run the same stupid schtick for the ridiculous paycheck.

Dirk didn't win it until Carlisle coached him who is one of the best.
Shaq and Jordan were coached by Jackson.
    K. C. Jones coached the star studded Celtics teams featuring Bird and he was great.
Magic was coached by Pat Riley.
Olajuwan had Rudy T, but anyone could have coached those teams to victory.

A great coach knows the other team's defense will adjust for their best player. It's there job to have go to plays that get their star player good looks at the basket.

You're right about Cuban asking for too much credit. All they did was out coach Spoelstra.

Honestly I don't give a hoot what Cuban and Bayless has to think but this thread has made the conversation interesting nonetheless.

    Go Rockets.
