First - How can these guys (Weisbrod and Francis) continue this charade with a straight face? Weisbrod only has one option (as long as McGrady will only sign with Houston) – which is 1 more option than a traded player, under contract ( Francis) has. It makes you wonder what color the sky is in their world.

Second – If Lue is included in the deal and opts out, doesn’t it free up more cap space for the Rockets?

As far as I'm concerned, Lue opting out is a good thing. It frees up $1.7million that we can use for towards a better PG. I'd rather have Wilks playing than Lue.

As for other salary implications, I had no idea that Spoon makes $5.5 million this year. Does anyone else think that's ridiculous? I mean, he played well last year in a limited role, but come on.

Also, Mo's salary of $8.5 million is hard to take. It make Howard's salary look reasonable.

How much longer are these contracts?

Rockets are WAY over the cap. Lue's $1.65 million won't help.

Spoon's contract was the reason we were able to dump Moochie. His deal runs through 2006. Taylor's runs through 2007. So, two more seasons for Spoon and three more for Taylor.

Hey, doesn't Fox have a newscast at 11am or 11:30 or something?

Not that I think Berman will say anything, but...

    Jeff,
Doesn't that make you a bit sick, like physically ill. Oh well, I guess there is virtually no team that is without a bloated contract or two.

Pretty much every team that is halfway decent has bloated contracts. It is part of the NBA, unfortunately.

The funny thing about Spoon is that he has always been a hard worker, and a good ball player. When he was younger, people really thought he was going to be something special, but the knock on him was always that he couldn't stay healthy. He had a lot of injuries early in his career. Now he seems to be healthy. If he could put together a season like last, I guess I would be satisfied.

Bird may be thinking differently given time. He said he already felt their offer was the best offer.
Let's suppose Weisbrod IS talking to Bird and is telling Bird McGrady needs to think about Indy, he'll sign with you- J. O'Neal & TMac = east title.

I think Weisbrod is delaying things for a better offer from Indy.
If he doesn't get it he will trade for Francis.

I think when the Houston deal leaked, Bird made contact.

I could be wrong, but it is pretty obvious that if there are no other alternatives this whole scenario is beyond ridiculous. Weisbrod has said he is considering other offers, but I think there may only be one other legit contender.

He may want Artest and Harrington draft picks and filler.

Maybe he wants more from Houston.

    Something is abnormal. duh.

If he announces the trade tomorrow (or this evening)

    Great.

If it doesn't happen after Steve's visit.

Open Market. Unless TMac demands it be Houston, Weisbrod
    obviously rejects our offer.

I just hope it happens by tomorrow.

Like about 20,000 other Rocket fans.

Apparently, he doesn't really know. "I guess there's a total of four (offers under consideration) right now," Weisbrod told the Chronicle.

    All from the same team:

Francis + Mobley + Cato for McGrady + Howard + Lue
    or there's
Mobley + Francis + Cato for Howard + McGrady + Lue
    or there's
Cato + Mobley + Francis for Lue + Howard + McGrady
    then there's
Mobley + Cato + Francis for Howard + Lue + McGrady

If he keeps stalling it, he can forget about Cato being involved!:)

If no deal is done by Wednesday, I say CD calls T-Mac and say "we tried but Wisebrods screwing you over." Then put out rumors of interest in other teams. T-Mac would probably get tired of all the crap and go to the media.

On a positive note: Does anyone agree that T-Mac has stayed calm and out of the pic because he knows he's coming to Houston? He won't comment on the trade and has just been free state of mind mood (from what I've read). T-Mac is the kind of guy that if he doesn't like something or isn't happy about something, he will say it.

He's no more of a GM than Tracy "If you don't trade the 1st pick, I'm leaving" McGrady... that's for sure.

No more of a "free agent" either, in response to thecabbage.

Lue must decline his option for him to be traded. If he is included, we keep him at least next year.

Lue at 1.6 mil is a good asset for the Rockets next year even if he becomes the back-up.

By getting him via the trade he also doesn't cost us any exemptions we can use to go over other FAs, and if he/us want him to stay next year we can use the Early Bird to give him a modest raise.

While no deal breaker of course if he isn't included, yes it would be nice to get Lue in the deal (meaning we have him under contract next year).

McGrady has never once refused or threatened to refuse to honor his contract. He simply said that he would opt out at the end of next season as is allowed in the contract signed by both he and the Magic.

Francis has basically threatened not to honor his contract by threatening not to play in Orlando if he were traded there. If he is under contract to a team regardless if he was traded there are not then he has an obligation to that team.

That is a very big difference.

I remember Dallas playing against, uh, the Wizards? Was Lue with the Wizards a year or two ago? Or maybe the Mavs were playing Orlando. Anyway, when Nash had the ball, Nellie kept yelling (you could hear it even at home, although they try to mute the sideline chatter) "Steve! Steve! Tyronn Lue! TYRONN LUE!!"

    Translation: take it to him.

I almost felt bad for the guy.
