I agree. The point guard position still needs an upgrade. Rafer said that he didn't know what the Rockets wanted to do with two starting point guards...in my eyes, the Rockets have two BACK UP point guards.

Sticking to the topic, I think Bonzi should come off the bench. He should come in when Yao sits down. Watching that Sac/SA video made me realize how much of the interior he's going to control

Houston Chronical: Bonzi's back: Better than ever?

    http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2007/06/bonzis_back_better_than_ever.html

Nice article but I think Feigen is stuck in JVG mode. He continues to worry how Bonzi will fit because we need shooters to pull the double team away from Yao Ming in the low post.

I think Adelman has made it clear that he is going to use Yao Ming a lot in the high post initiating the offense. This will clear a lot of space in the low post for guards like Bonzi to go to the basket or post up themselvs. Bonzi may be a great 2 guard in Adelmans system with Yao in the High Post.

Trade Head! Dude was a nonfactor when in counted most. He puts up good 3 pt stats but we don't really need Head's shooting. We have James now and Battier can shoot the 3 along with Novak. We need to use Head as trade bait for a good PF.

Yeah I know it isn't a signing, but this bolsters the roster by quite a bit.

we stil got him for next to nothing... although he may be a "nothing factor"...

im thinking unless we trade him in a package... we wont get a free agent... with his potential

This is great news!! This past year, I've ragged on Bonzi for how he approached last season. I also said that if he wanted to honor his current contract & come to camp inshape & dedicated to playing, he would be an asset to the Rockets. The decision was his. I am thrilled and looking forward to the coming season!!!

Yes he would! What choice does he have. I predicted it a month ago, Bonzi will be back. He put his self in a position where no one would pay more than what he would make on his current contract. It has nothing to do with Adelman. He simply has no other course of action to take.

Now for my next Bonzi prediction. He will continue to be a non factor because of his personality. Thats just Bonzi. He will be cut or traded to someone wanting an ending contract before the trading deadline.

U gonna eat your words son.... Watch out cause The REAL BONZI is back better then ever... U will see the Bonzi that the destroyed the spurs in the playoffs in 2005... Because Aldeman is the coach not JVG... and this is where Bonzi is gonna thrived under..

Actually as much as I love JVG, given the way last year went if I were Bonzi and JVG was still the coach, I'd go somewhere else, even if it meant taking less than the $2.8mil from the second year.

Somewhere else he might have a better chance to find a coach who would let him shine and get the big contract. I imagine in his mind (as most people do) he would seek to find an external cause for his poor showing last year (rather than accept all of the blame himself) and that external element would almost certainly be JVG.

Bonzi's PR, unlike his agent, is top notch. He always says the right things so don't believe too much into it.

when did adelman make it clear that he was going to use yao ming in the high post A LOT? my impression is that he's going to mix it up occasionally but not take him away from what he does best for too long.

i think there's room for yao to try some different things on offense but his a$$ better be in that low block 90% of the time. he's a dominant post player, i don't know why so many people think he needs to change his game. i don't think adelman is one of those people. i'm sure he's fully aware he's not brad miller or vlade divac, he is a far far superior talent.

with that said, you're main point is probably right. yao will get high post time, or atleast some different looks, and bonzi will have an open low block to work from. but he also had lots of chances in the post-up last year and he showed an ability to do nothing. he was fat and slow. if he does commit himself maybe he can actually do something when the ball his passed his way.

Except for Yao, Bonzi will take a few minutes from everyone else. Which isn't a bad thing. Slightly less minutes means fresher platers come playoffs. Right now, I see a rotation of Yao, Hayes, Battier, TMac, Wells, James, Alston, Head and Deke. That leaves Reed, VSpan, Novak, Jake, Snyder and Sura waiting for garbage time. However I see Yao, Hayes, TMac, Wells, James and Deke as the only players "guaranteed" to be in camp. The draft, free agency and trades should make this off season exciting.

Bonzi simply took a bad situation and made it worse when he was in Houston. His agent kind of screwed him over, then he ended up with a coach who is not known for good offensive teams. Instead of working his butt off, he just gave up because he believed that he didn't fit in. It was a combination of Jeff Van Gundy being offensively challenged and Bonzi just not working hard enough. Bonzi has a lot of heart and I think this next year we are going to see a changed man!

I really hope that we can start Mike James at point and play Wells at the two. That will be a pretty tough back court! Then we need to bring in a veteran that can replace Juwan in the locker room and rebound like a monster!

Would adding Bonzi's size to the starting lineup be enough to compensate for Shane's lack thereof at the 4?

If that can be done, the MLE wouldn't have to be used a big body. Spending it on swingman depth would get more actual talent for the same dollar.

If he can play like this next year, we are set at shooting guard!

I have expected that Bonzi will be back, but I thought he would sign a bigger contract with the Rox. I'm glad Bonzi chose to continue his 2.8million contract so that the Rox could sign another valuable player with the mid. You are a nice person, Bonzi. Hope you can show your talent next season.

I'm happy Bonzi and his agent met the Rockets June 25 goal of knowing what he wanted to do-we can now focus on the draft and on getting a 4.

Bonzi will come to camp in better shape than ;last year I expect. Last year he had the groin injury (coming into camp) I recall. That is painful.
