Bonzi Wells Happy He's Staying a Rocket Last Edited: Sunday, 24 Jun 2007, 12:01 PM CDT MyFoxHouston.com FOX 26 Sports Related Items Stories Bonzi Remains with the Rockets Adelman Praises Wells and Bonzi Loves It EXCLUSIVE: Bonzi Wells Sets Record Straight Rockets Reach Contract Agreement with Free Agent Bonzi Wells Exclusive: Wells May Sign with Rockets Links Read Mark Berman's Blog HOUSTON -- In his first interview since making the decision that he will continue his career with the Houston Rockets, forward Bonzi Wells tells FOX 26 Sports a recent meeting he had with Rockets coach Rick Adelman essentially sealed the deal. "It was a perfect conversation. He asked me how do you feel? He said how is your mind? How is your body? He didn't talk about my past or what happened last year. He didn't want to talk about all of that crazy stuff. Most coaches don't do that. They focus on other things. I told him right then I am here. I am in Houston. This is where I need to be," Wells said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. Prior to last season Wells signed a one-year contract with the Rockets that included a player option for a second year. Instead of opting out of his contract, Wells sent in the necessary paperwork Saturday exercising his option to stay with Houston. The 2006-2007 season was hardly perfect for Wells. Health issues and issues with former Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy severely limited his playing time. In April, with the regular season almost over, Wells chose to leave the team and did not return. The Rockets placed Wells on the inactive list and he did not play in the post-season. Addressing that issue for the first time Wells explained things from his point of view. "I wasn't in basketball rhythm with my teammates. I would have hurt the team if I had played and my teammates understood that. That's why none of them said anything, " Wells said. Wells believes the Rockets have the makings of a championship team and he is thrilled at the addition of guard Mike James. "I hated playing against him. He is like a pit bull. He is going to come right at you and in Coach Adelman's system he will be allowed to do that. The same goes for (Rockets guard) Rafer Alston. I liked what I saw in Rafer last year and his game will only get better under Coach Adelman," Wells said. Wells is aware of the possibility that the Rockets could still trade him, which is something he doesn't want to happen but understands the business side of the NBA. "I love Houston, the city, the people. I'm moving my family here and buying a home. This is where I want to be. I also know anyone in this league can be traded. It's happened to me before. I've talked to Coach Adelman about this and he said he is going to do everything he can to keep me," Wells said. And if it wasn't for Rick Adelman being named the head coach of the Houston Rockets, Wells would probably be a free agent right now. Instead he is looking forward to doing his job and living in his adopted home town. "I would run through a brick wall for Coach Adelman," Wells said. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=2&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1
When did he have a 50 point game? I didn't remember it, then I scanned this list, and didn't find him either.
repeatedly shined in the playoffs...besides sac where did he shine when he played a significant role...and remember, they lost to sa in 6....if we had someone play well in a series and still lost it, we would be critical of our own players. can he still play effectively? who knows, but its still a good move at 2.8 a year
shawn...with your sig...it keeps me in awe of how much yao has improved every year since his rookie year...
Look, I know he has/had potential to do more, play better, and actually contribute... ... and that at 2.8 mil, it's hard to imagine finding another player that COULD come in and contribute more than he MIGHT... ... but am I alone in wishing that he would have taken his 2 mil from last year and shoved it as he exited Houston? I don't care what his problem was, JVG or otherwise, rewarding and welcoming this guy after the way he let us down just makes me sick. I MIGHT be ok with him returning if he played for free, to pay back that 2 mil from last year when he basically proved the difference between advancing to the second round and losing to a, in my mind, lesser Utah Jazz team. He could have been the difference we needed. Now that its done, of course, he's a rocket again, and I want them to succeed, but you won't catch me acting surprised if it turns out that we succeed in spite of him rather than because of him.

I think he scored like 46 against Dallas in the playoffs one year, maybe the year Dallas went up 3-0 on Portland and then it went to 7 games? It's hard to remember the exact details, but I seem to remember something like that.
NBA.com lists his career his as 37 against Detroit on 03/02/03. Don't know if that counts playoffs, or not, but I think it does.
I did a BasketballReference.com query, and Bonzi's highest regular season point total was in Portland against Detroit where he scored 37 on 3/2/03. His highest post-season point was in Portland, 1st Round Game 3 2002 against the Lakers, he scored 33. He never scored 30 or more points against Dallas. Edit: Maybe this is the game you are thinking of: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/DAL20020409.html
Damn, my bad I guess I completely got him mixed up with someone else. I seemed to remember he blew up in some playoff game, oh well.
This is what i think is most likely gonna look like: Yao/Mutombo/C PF/Hayes Bonzi/Battier/Novak Tmac/SG/Head MJ/Span/PG Players that i think r most likely gone are Alston, JL3 n Snyder. Rockets need to pickup a young athletic PF that can rebound n defend, more like a taller version of Hayes.....n a young atletic shooter for backup SG. Since the team still looks slow n old i think this team needs more young players so a young PF n SG will help to suite Adleman type offense.
