I tend to listen to Rich and Marc since I listen to 610 most of the day. I switch over to Charlie when he talks Rox but he tends to dwell on baseball and college football alot. When both shows talk baseball and college football i change it to music. The most irritating thing about both 610 and 790 are the commercials and their stupid segways. I swear they play the SAME 5 or 6 spots all day long and it seems there's 35 minutes of commercials and the same sports updates and only 25 minutes of actual sports talk show. I am so sick of IW marks, trailler wheel and frame, brightsmile, lasic, and bubbles commercials. UGH I just wanna throw up when they play the same $hit all day long. It's gotten to the point where I only listen to Rome and then music the rest of the day.
Yeah, Savage is "waaaay out there" but I like a lot of the stuff he talks about... obviously on many things he can be a bit ridiculous but on the key issues I agree with a lot of what he says and I mainly like the fact that he calls out both sides... he also brings up stories that you never hear anywhere else, not even on Drudge.
KBME (790 AM) has booted the Fox Morning Extravaganza and will fill in with extra hours of ESPN's Mike and Mike and Colin Cowherd shows. Clear Channel Houston majordomo Ken Charles said the lineup is subject to change. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3497657.html
Charlie is the best radio sports host in this town, period. Matt and Adam's show is about the only thing I listen to on 610 anymore.
Programmer Ken Charles says KBME (790 AM) eventually will add a morning talk show but won't predict a start date. "I'm planning to wake up one morning and have a live local show (on KBME)," Charles said. "As for the whos and whats and whens, that's the part I can't answer yet." http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3502745.html
mornings like this morning are why 790 isn't competing. 610 has on Jon Barry and Lance Berkman in studio. 790 has on the same national programming they always have. not even close.
Agreed. But not a good day for the callers. Not many are getting on the air which isn't always a bad thing. I bet some of the regulars are going through withdrawls because they can't get on to slam the Texans.
since they put mike and mike on through the 8:00 AM hour, 790 competes with me. everytime mckinney, or casserly comes on, and on monday mornings when they're talking texans all morning. overall I like John and Lance way more, but everytime 610 goes all Texans, I change the station.
I disagree entirely. On almost any sports radio show, the callers are by far the weakest link. For every decent call, you get five from yokels who are calling in to get information that can be easily found with two clicks of a mouse or just having completely uninformed opinions about something. If sports radio did away with callers, I'd listen more often.
I voted Charlie because Mark and Rich is just a bad match. Charlie and Rich need to get back together.
How about 790 hires away Matt and Adam and puts them on in the morning slot to compete with John and Lance. Hmmmm..
What are you disagreeing about? Isn't that what I implied? It was a bad day for the regular yahoos who call because they didn't take many calls.
Man, was that some poor reading comprehension or what? I think I saw the first two sentences and thought you were defending the callers which I could not believe. Carry on.
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3599708.html Jan. 19, 2006, 10:37PM TV-RADIO NOTEBOOK Latest ratings satisfy sports radio competitors By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Arbitron ratings books are out for the October-December ratings period, and both KILT (610 AM) and KBME (790 AM) seem to be satisfied with the results. In the broadest audience measurement provided by Arbitron, persons age 12-plus for 6 a.m. to midnight daily, KILT had a 1.6 rating, which ranks 22nd in the market. That's down from 1.7 for the fall 2004 book but up from each of the previous 2005 books. KBME ranked 30th with a 0.6 rating, its best since switching to all-sports in December 2004. In the key demographic, men 25-54, KILT had a 4.0 rating, fifth in the market, to 1.5 for KBME. In afternoon drive, KILT with Rich Lord and Marc Vandeermeer had a 4.8 rating, fourth best in that time slot, to 2.8 for Charlie Pallilo on KBME. KILT also ranked third in morning drive with a 5.1 rating for men 25-54 and ninth in evenings. "Last year we were tied for 12th (in men 25-54), and now we're fifth," said KILT program director Bill Van Rysdam. "The World Series helped with our Astros postgame programming, and there were high expectations early on for the Rockets (which helped ratings)." At KBME, programming majordomo Ken Charles notes that the fall book was up by sixth-tenths of a point from the summer ratings period and that Pallilo's numbers doubled, from 1.4 to 2.8, "which is awesome for us." "We're closer (to KILT) now than we've ever been," Charles said. "It's nice to see that they did well. Our growth didn't come at their expense, and their growth didn't come at our expense. We're growing the pie for sports listeners, which is good for everybody." Charles said KBME will start searching next week for a morning talk-show host and hopes to have one in place by April 1. "We'll do a nationwide search," he said. "If we don't hire somebody from Houston, we want someone who can adapt quickly. If Roger Clemens isn't doing anything and wants to drop me a résumé, we'll take at a look at him. I can't match what the Astros are paying, but with endorsements, he would do OK."
Mark and Rich's play-by-play during the car chase the other day won them some points with me. "That's my move!!!" If Charlie ever got a partner, I'd probably tune in more, but he doesn't, so I don't.
Actually, AB would make a great partner for Charlie. He needs a smart joker around to keep him sharp and on point. AB would also add that cache of hip. Maybe he could improve the bump music and promos too. Ken Charles should be ashamed of that crap.
