He rightly deserved it! He was one of the main reasons why we won the game vs KC. Good to see the NFL seeing his accomplishments and giving a fair shake with consideration for the award and not shunning his efforts. Kudos, Super Mario! Keep it up and we will have a fun year in H-Town! :D

you mean to tell me mario has been an impact player most games up until this point.

look, I was okay that mario was taken instead of bush, and I realized they were going to never take young, but to say you have to look past box scores to see his impact is beyond ridiculous. the guy had to be taken out of some games last season.

Very nice to see this...This should only motivate him more and dominate...The first of many...

And therein lies the problem with such analysis; it's not nearly so black-and-white. There *IS* some middle ground between "he sucks"/"he's a bust" and "he's the next Julius Peppers". No, Mario hasn't been an impact player in most games up until this point. But he hasn't "sucked", either. And his impact is understated by people who look at sack numbers and have no idea what really goes on on a defensive line. If you want to look at how other NFL teams thought of Williams last year, look no further than all those double-teams. If you want a note on what may be his potential, look at how he manhandled the vaunted D'Brickashaw Ferguson (sp?) when they elected *not* to double-team him.

Oh, please. Do you really believe that statistics tell the whole story of any game?? If so, then we're wasting our time discussing anything. Keep your slide rule and your numbers; I'll be content to actually watch the games and see what actually happened. Statistics have their place, but to make a judgment on a player's impact, especially a lineman, based solely upon numbers--that is what is "beyond ridiculous".

And any recollection as to *why* Mario was pulled out of some games, btw?

    Unfreakingbelievable.

because he was unimpactful. I'm just responding to your post. you make it seemed like if we watched the games than we would have seen a good player.

    Because he was hurt.

Thanks for responding. If you watched the games and knew what the hell you were watching, you would have seen a good, not great, player hampered by a very painful injury. Or maybe all those NFL coaches don't know jack and you know more because you can read a box score in the paper.

what coaches? I love people who brag about actually watching games. congratulations. the thing you leave out of the equation is mario is the number one pick.

The thing you add to the equation is Mario's number one pick. Should he have been drafted #1? That is a whole different question.

But the draft is over (for the freaking 100millionth time). Evaluate the guy for what he does on the football field, not for what the Texans' crack-smoking front office did in January 2006.

And purely on the basis of what we saw on the football field, the statement "he has really sucked until this point" is so inaccurate it's ludicrous.

Unless you get all your knowledge from a box score.

AWESOME!! Hopefully this is just the beginning. Mario and the defense played very well last week but will have to play much better to beat the Panthers.

the guy eats up number one pick cap space, and he has to live up to number one pick value. it will always be part of the equation as long as he's a texan.

Great news! Hopefully, now that he's finally at 100%, this is a sign of things to come. Good to see him get some love from the media (for a change).

Sure you can...most of Houston has now after Sunday. Get with the times or go to a Titans' forum.

"They (Kubiak & crew) don't worry about things like how high somebody was drafted or how much money they cost. Gary's philosophy is the best people play. If you don't have that philosophy, it undermines morale." --Bob McNair

unfortunately like it has been said you are forced into a camp. there is no question in my mind that vince out performed mario. it really doesn't matter to me, until you see some of these arguments about passing stats and running qbs, its insane.

I like mario, but vince was more impactful, and I don't see how you could argue otherwise. vince may not have accounted for all the wins. but I can name more wins he accounted for than mario did. the giants, the texans, and bills come to mind immediately and that's before looking at it game by game.

considering he's a rookie, its no blight on his record that some games were won by rushing and some by defense and some by special teams. at least he didn't lose them, not the same can be said for another qb who had to leave this town

    You don't have to be.

I don't have any problem with any of this. It's certainly arguable, but your comments here are reasonable.

I'm just ready to evaluate them each separately on their own merits. For example, this entire Mario discussion had been "Vince-free" until this post. :D

I'm not proud of my fandom, but I am proud to be a Texans' fan. VY is not a Texan, never will be. Therefore, there's no reason to discuss him in relation to the Texans at this point unless we're discussing who will win the division or who will win a matchup between the Texans/Titans.

I feel sorry for people who have had 18 months to get over a freaking football decision, yet can't for whatever reason.
