The only recnt one I can think of Kearse going to Phily. But the Titans cap situation at that time was horrendous. If you go by franchise-player salary figures, I think the ranking is something like QB #1, DE #2, and offensive tackles #3. Indy had no problems letting their perennial pro-bowl RB go but gave Freeny the big bucks easily. So yeah, top-level Ends are non-existent on the FA market. It's true with most positions, but more so with the top offensive tackles, ends, and QBs.
Remember, the media was proclaiming it to be the absolute gospel. Reggie and VY could do no wrong and Mario could do nothing right. The Texans organization was the most idiotic one on the planet and the Texans would continue to go nowhere. Yada yada yada ... If Mario went to NOLA, would've gone to the Jets, would've gone to the Chargers, the Patriots, the Bears would THOSE organizations gotten half the criticism ours did? Oh no, the media pundits would have given those GM blow jobs for their acumen, but no since it was the Texans well it'll never work because, the Texans are only good at screwing up. E.S.D. national media! The Texans are coming and with a vengeance and they're taking no prisoners! Yes it is opinion but it is backed by the proof on the football field rather than hasty conjecture. Reggie was supposed to be the Savior for NOLA just like VY is toride in on his white horse and make all well in Hillbilly land but, poor Houston got not so-super Mario. I wonder what those so-called lame ass, non-hacking experts will say in say 2 years when our D is dominating opponents thanks to the new M&M. 'Mobi and Mario!
to be fair . .. It was Charlie Casserly and alot of hatred toward him has been well earned over his career Rocket River
Yeah, don't get me started about C&C idiot factory! Yes, their title is well earned. The epitome of imbecility. I'm just saying that even with the Mario deal in the draft last year, SI/ESPN/CBS were villifying our pick before he even played a down whereas, again VY and Reggie could do no wrong. Mario was projected to go as low as #4 in the draft so not exactly a stretch to go #1. Yet, according to the pundits it was almost as if Casserly's imcompetence once again made a resurgence like Mario was Jason Babin all over again. BTW, CBS hired Casserly as a GM analyst? What kind of SH*T is that? How much is CBS paying Shannon Sharpe to fire bones in Charlie's mouth concerning his campaign of failure in H-Town? Or is it, they rarely are ever together in a segment. Hmmm ... It's just interesting how the pundits will toss out hasty conjecture on topics, draft picks and then, when they're proved wrong, largely that part goes ignored.
I understand. . but I like to throw Charlie's B*TCH *SS under the bus every chance I get Rocket River
I actually like Charley's CBS segment on Sundays. He has some good tidbits of info. He is obviously a good people person since he has so many contacts in the media and around the league. He managed to get those GM jobs and the analyst job somehow. I'd rather watch him in HD on CBS than see him at McNair's side on Sundays. God help me, but I liked him in interviews, it cracked me up("Hey, now see, see..."). Besides CBS has the better pregame show now since they added JB. I think he held that FOX circus together. Now Shannon Sharpe is another story.
Agreed. It's amazing how much he punk'd McNair and the fans into believing we were getting close to being competitive. LOL! All things being even, to now have Kuby and Smitty instead of dumb & dumber and to begin to see a resurgence in Houston professional football again, all the crap of the first few years is worth it to see a REAL team forged out of the minutae of what once was. We win 10 or even 11+ games with all that's transpired, Kuby should win coach of the year. He already has my vote.
Again, everybody here keeps saying that about MW over and over and over but I just don't buy it considering what I've seen so far and from what I've researched about MW. Too me, it's a bit of a reach at this time to assert that he will be a beast and will dominate in time and so on. He appears to lack something that's holding him back. To me, he appears to be more like Russell Maryland was for the Cowboys - a no.1 pick who was a good solid player for many years but not a dominant one (yes, I realize that he played tackle - that's not my point here). It all comes down to what your personal philosophy is concerning the top pick. Some people are OK with taking a project player at that spot. I'm not. I also find it most interesting that the same people that are willing to be so very patient with MW are gleefully ganging up on RB for not exactly setting the league on fire. IMO, the same critical light should shine on both players because Mario was picked ahead of Reggie and both players have been pretty inconsistent so far.
If you replayed the KC game, both of Mario's sacks were because someone else was about to sack the QB and he tried to avoid that person and ran straight in to Mario. The TD Mario got was off a hit someone else made. Mario hasn't done much of anything to write home about.
