My, you are quick on the ball to come to the defense St. Vince. You will notice that I said, Once he actually does something in the NFL, I will extol his virtues. If you would apply the same standards, I wouldn't have developed the distain I feel for his legions of zombified worshipers. This is a good metaphor for these Vince discussions (with me in the roll of the guy sleeping with Mila Jovovich, of course): <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wsgzFobmlhY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wsgzFobmlhY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
david carr will win more superbowls than vince young!!!!!!!!!! (fueling the fire) actually, I have no idea where this post has gone.
that statistical "evidence" has been summarily shot down. when travis henry's "best" season comprises a 2-yard/game increase... it doesn't have much merit. the poster was referring to watching vince play in college, when running quartebacks actually run and are therefore, a different kind of threat; in the nfl, the QB doesn't "run." he scrambles, but few plays are designed for him to "run." i posted the difference in rushing attempts - 7 more a game in college. when a QB is running that much, yes, it changes a defense. and i didn't ignore the "one play" - it was, as you pointed out, one play. why in h-e-double hockey sticks do i have to prove something i never claimed? THAT'S your defense? throwing random other QBs at me and making ME prove something? well, gosh; it must be accurate if he spent a lot of time on it. i've gone over the titans' season previously; i even responded to raven's post. no one, self included, has ever said vince doesn't make plays. i mean, we all watched the second texan game. but his contributions have been overblown (makesrunningbacksbettercough), the credit he's received has been ridiculously out of whack with his actual conribution, jeff fisher's role has been greatly diminished and/or altogether ignored by the baby vince faction, and tennessee is looking like it might be a better team than any of us thought.
It was not shot down. The poster listed RB's that had an increase with VY under center, and he posted those stats. You tried to refute them by showing that those RB's were quality backs before playing with VY. I don't see how that refutes the claim that they had an increase with him under center. Actually he was referring to college and the few VY games he has seen (against the Texans). Do you think it takes more than 2 NFL games to notice the impact that some players can have? So folks still don't spy on running QB's in the NFL? Did he not note how having a spy gives a RB an extra second or two because the spy is paying attention to the QB? Did he not reply and say he doubts that NFL defenses have problems that college defenses don't? Did he not also mention how the ATL backs also had better seasons with Vick under center? You are correct, there aren't that many running QB's in the NFL. Makes an offense have some advantages when they actually have one, right? How many plays do you need to have broken down for you? Was the play an example of how a running QB makes a difference? Yes or no? Did you ask for support on how a running QB can make a difference? Yes or no? This is a perfect example of how you are constantly given support and you dismiss it. Do you need the entire Titans playselection broken down for you? Again, wasn't Fisher there when all of the losing was occuring? The Titans didn't start winning when they got a new coach, a new RB, a new line, new receivers, a new stud DB, etc. They started winning when they got a new QB, plain and simple. List any player that you choose from last season, and that player was on the field or contributing to the losses before VY got in (i.e. coaches). I am not saying all of the credit goes to VY, but it's pretty silly to undermine his impact when ALL of those other things were there when losses were piling up, and the wins "magically" started to occur once he became the QB.
I don't like yard per game differential stats for a player in different situations because PT affects this stat more than anything else.
And go Texans! VY sucks*! *currently. While a running QB does help the running game significantly in his and the RBs carries, a QBs primary responsibility is still to throw the damn ball.
Actually... the last few games last season haven't been. In fact, Houston's attendance fell SHARPLY last season. Yes. That ESPN. And can you blame them for not really wanting to cover a perennially crappy team in a ho-hum market? I can't either.
no, i don't blame them for not covering the Texans. so who are they to say they know what's going on here?
let me take one thing back in this thread, andre johnson is a better player than vince. but I will take a little credit, a couple of years ago I said I thought johnson was the most physically gifted receiver in the league, when you combine, speed, size, strength, leaping ability, and now that he has a competent qb he is gonna show the world how good he is. andre ware said the same thing thurs. you have to give casserly credit for a few good picks.
Try again. http://www.nfl.com/teams/schedule?team=HOU&season=2006&seasonType=REG Every home game, sellout. Paid attendance over 70,000. As it has been for every game in franchise history.
Thank you for attempting to take back control of the thread. Can we please get off Vince's nuts for two seconds and discuss, oh, I don't know, MARIO VS. BUSH? Bush today: 10 carries, 27 yards (2.7 avg); 6 receptions, 43 yards; 2 fumbles Mario today: 1 tackle (but was pretty disruptive overall)
