It seems everyone who says that Mario deserved the nod over Kyle/Jason is using this exact same stat to DEFEND their position...
In the end, I think they just decided they filled their quota of Texan players with Ryans. NE, Ind, Pit, and SD need 6 or 7 guys each, so everyone else is only allowed one or two slots. Typical political voting. Taylor gets in on name alone. Vanden Bosh gets serious help from the fact that Tenn's defense just wins games* and that Ryans pretty much HAD to be a starter, cannibalizing Mario's chances. Whatever. Hopefully someone opts up and gives Mario an in. Evan *in spite of Vince Young's pathetic QB play
eh, not that big of a travesty. let mario repeat his performance next season then I'll gripe if left out.
For the past 1.5 years, a big part of the defense of Williams has always been that sacks aren't a good measure of the value of a DE. So, assuming these guys are getting somewhere around 1 sack a game and play about 60 defensive snaps, is it possible that people thought that KVB and Taylor had more impact in the other 59 snaps each game? I don't pay enough attention to any of the 3 to really be able to compare, but it seems to be a reasonable possibility.
Dale Robertson just confirmed that Williams, Demps and Brown are all alternates. Demps? He has played well but has only started 3 or 4 games. Is he a special teams alternate maybe?
Regardless of the "numbers", its silly when someone says that Mario did nothing for half the year. Seriously, anyone that has watched him at all has known that he has made an impact on the field...it may not show up on the stat sheet, but the guy has been playing very well all year long. Of course, now, the stats are backing up his play, but that doesnt mean that he is just now turning it on or that he is finally playing with effort...it just means that he is catching more breaks now than he did earlier in the year.
The Tennessee Titans were a franchise that were formerly located in Houston as the Houston Oilers. When the franchise left - some former Oiler fans chose to part ways and some (such as myself) continued to follow the team from afar. I live in Houston. I was an Oilers fan. I am a Rockets fan. I do not (nor have I previously) post/posted about the Titans on a Rockets message board. Even in the Hangout "where anything goes." But when the Titans are introduced into conversation (which happens a lot around here exactly because the franchise was formerly located in Houston and many Rockets fans still have ties - good and bad - to the franchise) - as did the Vanden Bosch v. Williams discussion arise here - I will speak up. Not rocket science by any means...
By the way, I think Vanden Bosch is the most deserving...Ive watched those guys play a lot and I feel like the dude is in on every single play. Freaking workhorse coming around that corner. Allen, havent seen too much of him, but I cant argue with his numbers. Taylor...2 words: popularity contest.
I absolutely do not think Mario did "nothing" for half the year. Had Mario Williams made it over Vanden Bosch - I would not think it was a travesty - just as I don't think its a travesty the way it turned out. I think they were neck and neck until voting closed (before the Denver game I believe) and both are deserving. This is based just on numbers and the fact that I've seen every Titans game this year b/c of Sunday Ticket and every Texans game this year - but I did not pay particularly close attention to the play of Williams and Vanden Bosch on the line... If the scouts/coaches/gms/players - who get 2/3 of the vote picked one over the other (whichever way it would have ended up being) - fine by me... they know more than me.
Grow the F up, dude....Stuff like this is the reason that we can't have rational Titans/ Texans or VY threads on here.....This thread is about Mario Williams and the Pro Bowl. Not the playoffs, not whether certain QB's deserve to go or not, etc. I am a VY fan, and I would be the first to admit that he was rewarded because lots of others dropped out last year. I hope he earns it one year, but at the same time, I agree that All Pro is a lot more prestigious. Mario will make it when someone pulls out. I'd say he deserves it, although people can't argue from one side of their mouth that MW was playing well and not getting numbers, then turn around and say that it's unjust that Vanden Bosch and Allen make it when they don't have the numbers MW has. Can't have it both ways! (also, wasn't Allen suspended one or two games, so he hasn't played as many as the others?)
I've always agreed with this assertion as well - b/c fan voting is eliminated - but the All-Pro team is picked by sports writers and broadcasters - and I have to think that many of them can and do hold grudges against players for a plethora of reasons (not enough face time, snubs in the locker room, personal chemistry issues, etc) - and maybe there's almost as much bias in that voting as the Pro Bowl?
I think Kerney has less tackles too. One of the starters missed like two games. Mario definitely got SNUBBED!
What exactly is an alternative in terms of the stat. Does he actually count as a pro bowler? Cause i think I really hope someone drops out, Mario truly deserves a spot. What is the chance though.
no biggie, Mario will make All Pro first team. that's a bigger achievement than the pro bowl. the only reason he didn't make it is b/c the NFL's stupid voting which ended last week.
ask mrdave why he took off his sig about the Texans never winning anything. it was 2 games into the season when the Texans came back and won against the Panthers. he pretty much shut up after that. you'd think someone who talks so much crap could at least have the backbone to not recant that statement so fast.
