ugh. macalu, why would you go to Bubba Gump Shrimp when you are in the seafood capital of America? no wonder why you were disappointed by the food...

I'm just saying, a chain restaurant based on a movie is not the way to go when you are in NOLA...

Thanks for the Cooter Brown's suggestion. We got there a little too late on Sunday to find a spot for the game. So a buddy and I just kinda walked around the area and asked someone working at a coffee shop where would be a decent place to watch the game. He pointed out Madigans which is just up Carrollton from Cooter Brown's. We walked in about 45 minutes before the game started and there were only two other people in the place. It was a nice little place with two nice HDTVs. It got pretty packed right when the game started. Drank $6 Abita pitchers all game long, sang Tom Petty songs with the rest of the crowd at halftime and left with a tab of $44 for five of us.

Really cool spot, highly recommended. Grabbed a sandwich from Cooter's after the game. While I didn't dig mine as much as everyone else liked theirs, it was just because of what I got and what I was expecting. I know I would like something else from there.

All in all, I had a great time, other than losing about $600 at Harrah's. Stupid $20 minimums and river rats at poker. Did Bourbon Street twice and on Sunday night caught a parade as we made our way from Springhill to Bourbon Street. We had a group of black guys mocking us "whiteys" on one of the side streets, but that was quickly diffused by one of our group saying "for shizzle" just like the Tiger Woods character in the Racial Draft episode of the Chappelle Show.

I haven't spent much time in New Orleans, but would love to go back soon. Not a bad road trip at all. If anyone's making the trip again, be sure to stop off at Darrell's in Lake Charles. Best sandwich/po-boy I've ever had.

Many thanks to surrender (the poster) for taking our extra room for one night. That rocked. Sorry I didn't get to buy you a beer, but when I came back in to the lobby, you were gone.

I like Madigans. It's a good bar that has pretty good prices. Cooter Brown's isn't really known for its food. Great place to watch a game and get a beer with its impressive beer list.

we stayed at the Ambassador last year. a block away from Mother's and basically walking distance to anywhere else. don't try stuffing 8 bodies in one room though. Hotels will not let anyone in who doesn't have a wristband.

oh yea, definitely best to reserve ahead of time. it'll save you money and the headache of trying to find a place later on when everyone and their momma are trying to get a hotel.
