First....I thought you were staying near the convention center in that Marriot place? I wasn't sure if I had missed anything, so I glanced back at the thread and saw that you had offered me a ride. Thank you.......seriously. I was kind of talking out of my butt when I said I might leave by myself because my wife is preggers with our first......so if I left the group, it would probably NOT be well received. However, I may use it as a threat if people start dawdling. Second, are you talking about going to Jacques Imo's? If you are at the Marriot place, you'll actually be more in the warehouse district (I think that is what it is called.....if not, it is just the bottom of the CBD). Anyway, you'll be closer to Jacques Imo's than if you were in the FQ.....but not by much; you'll still need transportation. If you can get in there, I say go for it. Even with a reservation, you'll have to wait, but it is a fun, happening spot, and the if the kitchen is on their game, and the waitstaff gets it to you quick enough, you can get some damn good fried chicken there. But you'll need to find a cab, and that usually means getting outside of the parade route (You're inside it near the convention center..........sandwiched between St. Charles and the river).
Fun story..... We were a bit drunk last year at Mardi Gras (well.....basically, I stay fairly well buzzed), and we got hungy, so we went to Irene's in the FQ. We got seated and were looking at our menus when I caught a change in my wife's posture to the right of me. I looked over towards her just as she let out a really loud F-bomb (if you knew how straight laced she is, you'd know that is a monumental event). The next words out of her mouth were, "that's Brad Pitt!" Sure enough, Brad and Angelina were being seated right after us.
A tip for anyone staying downtown and need a place to park. Park at Harrah's and "lose" your parking ticket if you are planning to keep the car there the whole time or have your ticket validated each day in the casino at the poker room. They have no way to check when you actually parked there if you don't have a ticket and will be charged I think $30 for a lost ticket.
i can definitely change it to saturday if you guys are up for it. right now, we're just going with the flow. hell, i love oysters so i may just show up both days anyways. our hotel is only half a mile from there...one block west of Harrah's.
Stupid question... A few of our people backed out raising the cost for the rest of us going. We figure the rest of us (6) could stay in one room since it's a suite. My buddy is afraid that since it's the weekend before Mardi Gras starts, that they hotel will only let in people with bands and they probably wouldn't be cool with six people in one room. Is that something we need to worry about?
we are bunking 6 people in a hotel with 2 full beds. if we "get caught" they'll charge us extra. at least, that's their story.
Does any one know about the holiday Inn on the street? Do they check if we have like 6 people? I don't want to get there and then they are like ya'll can't come.
So, we tried canceling one of the rooms on Saturday and Marriott wouldn't let us. A week out and they wouldn't let us cancel a room when there aren't even that many more in that area to begin with. So, anyone have any advice on either a) how to get out of it or b) how to find someone to take the room? Any Clutchfans want it? We'd probably give it away for half-price.
