Not the best audio but it does somewhat sound like "piece of crap"

I still think he said "sorry about that" before he was pushed. The "piece of crap" statement is what got Smart's attention initially. Still a far cry from a racial slur, but nonetheless unacceptable behavior. Glad Orr is taking a timeout.

I agree with the NCAA for suspending Marcus Smart, but I think the NCAA should also suspend Jeff Orr for violating the NCAA fan code of conduct.

    The NCAA expects fans to:

Sorry situation. No one wins-- unless OSU wins three straight; then Travis Ford ekes out a tie.

People that take college sports so seriously are the biggest losers I know. It's one thing to hope your alma mater does good, it's another to be so engrossed into recruits and all that crap that those hardcore fans are.

How can you take 18-20 year old's performance so seriously once you are an adult?

Never understood how so many fans stay so hardcore once they are out of college (mainly aggies from my experience).

I am not name calling. I was called a racist for bringing up a fact. Doesn't mean I am racist for doing so, but in reality I was defending the Tech fan. Just so happens, the guy calls him a piece of crap and Smart loses his mind. It immediately became a race thing. It is annoying, because it would seem as if a certain race is still ultra sensitive to a subject that is just not a factor anymore unless they twist it to be.

I work in the home business, and I hear people's stories every day about how they get fired from work because they are a certain race etc. Many people use it as an excuse(the race card) and it just so happens that Smart used the "N" word as an excuse to push an old man. The man didn't use the "N" word, but Smart thought that by making up that excuse it would justify his actions. He is an idiot, and its a shame that so and so man has to miss the remainder of the games(voluntarily). Smart should be suspended for the year. Idiot.

What do you call a person who thinks it seems a certain race is "x"?

As a white man, you are in no position to tell me what relevance racism holds in my personal life, or how prevalent it is. Period. The fact that you even think it is appropriate -- or possible, really -- to speak definitively on what black people experience in America today when it comes to race relations, is proof of your blinding privilege.

You're entitled to your opinions, but I would advise you not to speak authoritatively on that which you do not live.

? so are you allowed to comment on NBA games if you're not an NBA player yourself?

Not even close to the same, and you know it.

You're another white man who has tried to tell me what I experience as a black person in America on this board before, so I will welcome you to my ignore list as well. Have a nice one.

    nope

some people in this thread have gotten uber sensitive since Smart appears to have been outed for making up the racial slur bit. The audio sounds like "piece of crap" or "sorry about that". Not conclusive, but that's what it sounds like. So a lot of people are pissed it didn't fit their desired story about the fan being the bad guy...

nothing you just said had anything to do with your previous post, and how it wasn't in any way relevant. This post I'm quoting makes sense, no matter how much I disagree with it. The fan can be a bad guy even if he just said some stuff that wasn't racist, right?

look I don't want to send this thread to the D&D, so I won't go on and on about it, but I do think there's some folks trying to shut down conversation without using any logic to do so.

I'm bowing out of this thread -- not worth escalating it to the D&D. I think Smart was out of line for pushing a fan. Was the fan being a d-bag? Probably, but that's what opposing fans do is to try to rattle the other team, so it's not like that's something new for a basketball game.

Orr must have said something more than a piece of crap to voluntarily not go to any more games this season
