You may be forgetting how good Hayward is and what a yo yo Marcus Morris is. Over the long 82, he's not a starter on a championship contender.

IMO, he's the odd man out this coming season and will be traded by the deadline. Guys playing for a contract care about big minutes and scoring. That won't happen for him on the Celts in 2018/19 unless one of Tatum/Brown/Hayward goes down with an injury.

I don’t know - limited players like him when they fall off, they FALL OFF. 4 years makes me a little nervous especially because they are going to have to pay a lot to retain Brown, Rozier, and Tatum before Smart’s contract is over. Paying Smart that money is one thing but when you are deep in the luxury tax, that’s going to become a problem that you are going to have sacrifice prospects or picks to unload unless Smart adds significantly to his game.

Seems too high. Would rather give Ariza that money - and I wouldn't give Ariza that money.

wow, i did not expect him to get that much. i thought he might be taking a 1 yr/10M deal and get back on the market. multi-year deal i was thinking he would have to settle for 4/32 or 4/36. good for smart to get play hard and get paid. i know people bring up using smart's salary in a trade, but if they don't, how is boston affording all this? max for hayward. max for horford. 2 non-superstar max players. about to have to max irving in a year. brown and tatum are still cheap but you won't have all these guys together long you would think. maybe they assume horford will age out and they'll keep paying the "big 4". but spending $13M on smart seems like that will require a lot of tax money. but i haven't looked at their cap.

The advantage to the Celts is the contract is tradeable if they re-sign Kyrie next summer. If Kyrie leaves, they may want to keep Smart.

No later than next summer, the Kyrie/Rozier/Smart trio will be broken up.
