I guarantee his will parlay this into some sort of reality show, and he can let his freak flag fly.....................poor guy thinks people are laughing with him when there actually laughing at him but he's too dumb to know the difference.

 

the intent was to release the report as soon as practicable. the committee voted to accept the findings/evidence presented in the report, without actually recommedning expulson. thus, the report was allowed to be release this week, which may have contributed to this

Gop is still dragging their feet. Fking just expel the man. It's gonna b telling if there is a vote and gop still vote along party lines to preserve their majority. I bet they are just gonna slow play it and wait until Santos term just expires.

 

However the House is out until November 28...

I imagine it will. The only reason it didn't the first time was because it set a bad precedent by voting on something that serious when no conviction had happened or this report having come out. Now that it's out there in detail, Only the MTG's of the world can defend him. He'll be gone, likely shortly after Thanksgiving since I think they're all gone already.

 

Almost zero chance that the Rs kick Santos out to be replaced by a D from a D governor.

I suspect that many Rs will simply say that Santos has been charged but not convicted, which is true.

The political calculus is whether letting Santos finish his term is better for the Rs 2024 Congressional elections or not. I am unsure how much Santos will matter for the 2024 elections.

FWIW the Ds are not kicking out Senator Bob Menendez NJ, even though he would be replaced with a D from the D NJ governor.

 

It goes to a special election that would happen fairly quickly. The Gov of NY doesn't directly name a replacement.

Ms. Hochul said she has to call for a special election within 10 days of a vacancy and then schedule the election for 70 to 80 days from that decree.

 

If they fail to remove Santos, I think it'll probably more Democrats' fault than Republicans'. If all Ds voted for his removal, I think there could be enough R votes to get over the threshold. But 31 Ds voted against it last time. Some of them might just have been waiting for this report, some might be hoping he'll continue to be an electoral drag if he stays. and some might fear his removal will put more pressure on for the removal of Menendez (who should be removed, btw). For the Rs, it narrows their majority, but they still keep the majority -- and that majority doesn't have the power to pass any Republican legislation anyway because of the opposition in the Senate and White House. Meanwhile, Santos marginally hurts their own re-election campaigns.

 

Stop it. Just, stop it.

This is the Rs mess to clean up. The Rs need to put their grown up pants on and do the right thing. If they can't or won't kick Santos to the curb, it is their problem.

BTW if the Rs don't have the votes and need the Ds help to get the job done, there is the usual R suspects that will run to a camera and shout that the Ds just kicked out a R member without due process ... and look over there ... why it is Senator Bob Menendez. Menendez will then become the answer to any and all Santos related questions.

 

No. They don't need a simple majority to kick him. They need 2/3rds. It's not just an R problem, but a House problem. Knowing some extremists won't vote to kick, we need basically all the rest to vote Yes.

And Menendez absolutely should be kicked too. The Ds are cowards for keeping him in office. Twice now.

 

You'll probably note that a large number of republicans were defending menendez too. I am sure they did it to prevent looking hypocritical WRT santos. Probably because they also see little upside kicking menendez out since its almost a certainty he is replaced with a Democrat where santos will be likely be replaced with a Democrat.
