With the current chaos among the House Republican caucus there is even less chance they will get rid of Santos. Every Republican running for speaker is likely going to court him.

George Santos treasurer pleads guilty, spills the beans on him

Nancy Marks, the former treasurer of Long Island GOP Rep. George Santos, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and described his "bogus loan and fake donors," reports the Associated Press.

To impress party leaders, she said, Santos submitted bogus campaign finance reports falsely saying he had loaned his campaign $500,000 even though in reality he didn't have that kind of money and the loan didn't exist. The fake loan made Santos look way richer than he really was, and also helped him hit fundraising thresholds needed to qualify for backing from a national GOP committee.

Santos's election to Congress publicized the myriad of obvious and unvarnished lies he told about his past and his finances, and led to questions about New York Republicans' corruption and New York Democrats' basic organizational competence. He remains a congressman despite a 13-count federal indictment accusing him of stealing from donors, his own campaign, lying in financial disclosures and even benefits fraud—the GOP needs his vote in the closely-divided House.

It’s one thing to commit crime, but to be this dumb and brazen while doing it? How did the Dems not spill the beans on all his frauding while he was running for a House seat? I mean, c’mon…

Santos’s failure to file not only demonstrates a lack of respect for rules that exist to provide the public with information that can be used to identify serious conflicts of interest, but it also further obscures Santos’s personal finances,
which are at the center of a 13-count indictment from May, alleging that Santos
    • cheated donors,
    • stole from his campaign and
    • lied to Congress on previous financial disclosures he filed as a candidate.

the filings were originally due in May, and Santos never filed to request an extension. Meanwhile, his fellow House members, some of whom have vastly complicated personal finances and net worths climbing into
the hundreds of millions of dollars, have all managed to file the form detailing their assets, liabilities and transactions on time.

I suspect that the next Speaker will create a committee to do some discovery that will take years to complete.

GOP gears up to expel George Santos: "He cannot serve"

A day after Congressliar George Santos (R–NY) racked up another 10 criminal charges to complement his 13 previous charges, House Republicans in New York are introducing a resolution to oust the fraudster from Congress.

"Today, I'll be introducing an expulsion resolution to rid the People's House of fraudster George Santos," said Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, R-N.Y. today on X, adding that his resolution will be co-sponsored by his Republican colleagues Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Nick Langworthy and Brandon Williams. (See tweet below.)

Rep. Lawler then chimed in, saying on CNN, "With the guilty plea of his treasurer admitting to the very scheme he has been now twice indicted on with 23 felony counts, he cannot serve."

The time to act is now," Lawler continued. "It's clear with his treasurer's guilty plea what occurred. And as far as I'm concerned, he should not be a member of Congress." (See video below, posted by Republican Accountablity.)

    From NBC News:

Booting Santos would require a two-thirds vote of the entire House, a benchmark LaLota seemed confident of meeting. "I predict this resolution is going to catch fire. Many people feel how we do," he said. …

Santos's New York GOP colleagues had previously called for him to step down in light of the criminal charges and revelations that he'd fabricated large parts of his resume.

"I said he should resign and he should still resign," Molinaro said in a post on X Tuesday after the additional charges were announced.

House Democrats moved to expel Santos in May after he was initially charged, but Republicans voted to refer their motion to the House Ethics Committee, which has been investigating Santos since March.

D'Esposito suggested he and his colleagues have waited long enough. "I know that Ethics has been a little busy, but, you know, it's time that we see some results," he said.

Did anybody on the planet read Santos' statement because they were sincerely, unironically interested in knowing what he thinks?
