why would you trade Martin for Turner? So far he's proven to be underwhelming. He's barely shooting 40% from the field, averaging 7 pts per 23 minutes. Plus, he's not even a good defender. Another year of sub-par production and he'll be considered a full-fledged bust.

No one wants to move Kevin Martin more than I do, but you don't want to throw him away on a guy who looks like he's gonna be a career role player.

Are you citing the '09 busts as proof that accumulating young talent is a failed strategy?

As with all things in life, you get what you pay for. What did we pay for the '09 busts? Battier (who was leaving anyway), Jermaine Taylor, Brad Miller, and a mid-1st rounder. Jordan Hill was compensation for greasing the wheels to get McGrady to New York. Considering what we paid, the benefit we got from the '09 busts was fair to favorable. If you go on to consider the young players who did pan out -- Lee, Lowry, Dragic, Patterson, Parsons, etc -- it seems to be working okay so far.

I think we've written for like the past four years that the most active guy on trade deadline day is Daryl Morey. He's made a number of moves over the years ... but what everyone is really asking is ... when is the big one. When is the year that the Rockets package their diverse assets and land that player that puts them into contention. They'll shop Martin, Scola and their young guys, but I'm just not sure that gets them a stud. Gasol? Maybe. But is he enough to make them serious contenders?

Most likely, we'll have to find that stud, like we did Lowry. It's very difficult to trade for an established stud.

We already have our big man stud, his name's D Mo. If we could bring him in next year along with our SG stud (Lull) then we'd be golden.

Donatas is still just a prospect. Nothing is guaranteed with him. All we know is that the Rockets are getting basically top 8 draft pick talent in him next year even though they might not have but one late 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick. Llull will not be coming over until the summer after this next one.

That being said, things are pretty quiet so far on the trade front. I think teams are just positioning themselves on contingencies deals based on Dwight Howard getting moved. This is pretty telling that most GM's obviously think the big deals(D12 & DWill) are still in play.

As far as the Rockets are concerned, I would guess that there are contingency deals in place for both Terrence Williams, and Goran Dragic. Thabeet will most likely be waived IMO. They would only need his salary in the case of a mega, mega deal to match insane salary.

I say Terrence Williams is a for sure thing because the Rockets front office has to know that keeping him on the bench past the trade deadline has very little upside, and a TON of downside if his attitude suddendly affects the lockeroom like it did last year. (remember, the sudden "abdominal issues" when he was excused from the team for the last 3 weeks.) More than likely the Rockets will have a deal like the David Andersen deal in place with him, where they might actually have to pay the other team to take him and get a conditional 2nd round pick in the process back.

Dragic, on a smaller deal will command alot of attention. I believe they can possibly even get a protected 1st round pick from a team like maybe Indiana, or the Lakers (assuming they dont make the mega deal with Gasol) that would assumingly make up for the Terrence Williams pick they are loosing.

Flynn- I assume that Dragic will def. be dealt. Thats allows Flynn to move in as the backup for the remainder of the season. The Rockets will have high interest in him as Lowry's backup next season if they dont get one in the draft. I think they ride him out as the backup the remainder of the season as an extended tryout for 2012/13.

Thabeet- Waived to make way for whoever... maybe Jeff Adrien.

These are small deals I am assuming, given that the Mega Deals do not take place.

I dont know how much more my heart can take. I really need Morey to hit 2 or 3 homeruns in this deadline with the 09ers, Martin and Scola, and then anyone else it takes to land an Ace (Patterson, Morris, Donatas, Parsons, Bud, Lee, Picks)

I would gladly take Lowry + 2 superstars + 10 D-League players into next offseason with some cap room.

So as of today, we're currently in 9th and out of playoff contention in the West.

Will Morey hit a homerun and acquire a star or significant acquisitions to make us a contender this season or next?

Will Morey strike out yet again and opt to trade away contracts and rebuild?

Or will he settle for minor acquisitions that would still make us a mediocre winning team?

Trade deadline is One week! Exactly 7 days to go!

After the trade deadline we can all get together and discuss Moreys extension for 10 years when he does nothing again. Unless stats boy comes through finally. That is unless of course he is unlucky with Stern blocking him, bad glamour image of Houston, Les Alexander holding him or whatever bad luck excuse again. Hope that doesnt happen to him.

I don't know if Morey is to blame, really. Can't imagine another manager doing a better job than he has so far. It was evident that the only available star was Gasol and then we were bound to acquire Nene as well. Not to mention that in this day and age, all the free agent to be stars all want to play in bigger market cities so Morey being a Houston manager doesn't really help does it?

Morey is not the problem. The NBA is. Big marketable cities/managers acquire all the stars with almost no effort whatsoever. Imagine if Morey was the manager of cities/teams like LA,NY,CHI,MIA etc... Well, it is what it is.

I can't even name one superstar free agent that Morey didn't go after. He has done eveything to try to acquire one, from caravans to ipads. From Bosh to Melo to Deron. We're lucky to have a manager like Morey. Even insiders and reporters know he's one of the most, if not the most active/aggressive GM in the league for years.

    Houston gets
    Pekovich gasol

    Los Angeles gets
    Dragic Beasley scola

    Minnesota gets
    Martin

Draft picks here and there. Is this possible?

Salary wise yes, but minny will not accept that. We would have to give ppat at a minimum since pekovic is becoming more and more untouchable.

No way L.A. or Minny does this deal.

Love ya passion but this is a homer trade if there ever was one.

I actually think LA would do it and like 1993 said, Minny does it if they get PatPat or even Morris.

I think Deandre Jordan, Evan Turner should be two guys Morey should try to get.
