You have to 'give' in order to get which is what Rox will be doing before they ever 'take on' in order to get. They want to continue to improve and upgrade, not be forced to a hault.
Letting McGrady's contract expire has no benefit other than giving the Rockets about $7-8M in cap room IF they don't re-sign Scola or Lowry. Frankly, I'm not particularly impressed with that benefit. Plus, Caron Butler is better than any player the Rockets could realistically get with their cap room or the MLE. To be able to have Butler, Scola, Lowry and an MLE free agent next year, I'd gladly give up a 2011 mid-second rounder and the right to Eliyahu. But maybe that's just me.
To be honest i don't think we'll ever get a championship period as long as we have Yao and nobody we can get will be better that Iggy who can put this team over the top. We'd have a better chance with Jamison/Butler and i think McGrady/Scola/Lowry/Cook are pieces that is for sure.
I really do believe the Rockets are going to stock pile talent this year in hopes of one of the Big three, Bosh, Wade, James decide to play in Houston. I mean why not at least try to attempt to go after Lebron? It’s not going to hurt us one bit. Dewayne Wade has been throwing parties in Houston quite a bit the past few seasons and I don’t really see Houston going after Bosh, but he is from Texas. What you do have to understand is all of these players come from Eastern Conference Teams. The two teams with the most money are the Knicks and the Nets and have the least desirable talent compare to the Rockets say in fact the Rockets make the Caron/Haywood for McGrady Swap. Why would Miami, Toronto, and Cleveland do a Sign n Trade with either New York or the Nets? To make those teams the favorite and put their franchise back for another decade? Well what if they do make a sign n trade? Well Nets probably have to give up Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, and New York? Well who would want any of those scrubs for Lebron/Wade/Bosh? The Big 3 would just shoot themselves in the foot. What are the top 3 markets in the NBA? 1. New York, (media), 2.Los Angeles,*Lakers* (Hollywood/Kobe) 3. Houston (Yao/China). 4. Chicago (media). They are not going to the Lakers so basically it’s out of New York, Houston, and Chicago. Out of all those cities, Houston has the best weather, the lowest cost of living, No State Taxes, A Legitimate Big Man with major Global Marketing (China), Houston is a NBA Mecca for Players to visit, work on their game and enjoy the night life. We have the most talent to build around and if we trade Mcgrady without giving anyone up we would have the pieces to do a massive sign and trade with a Cavs, Heat, Raptors , and they would most likely do a sign and trade with a (Western Conference Team). By the way lets us not make the playoffs and get into the lottery that would be a nice chip to be added. That’s my thought on this whole Mc Grady Thing...
Do you have a crystal ball? Houston holds no leverage on the dotted line everything is based on the player and how smart he is. I remember hearing people say Morey has yet to hit a home run through a trade, yet some people are very cautious. I think he can hit a inside the park home run, it's based on who we don't trade that matters.
We might as well keep Caron than Joe \Johnson for lessor money.. I don't really seeing Memphis dealing with Houston at all... that deals with Rudy Gay.
Good one. You should transfer this msg to the players that you mentioned so that they realize what you are talking about I think this year Houston is setting up for the big things for the years to come (1.we have the biggest expiring contract in the NBA while the biggest free agency market is coming. 2. we've ALREADY collected a dozen of great talented role players even star players this year even we have the chance to get more if we slided to a lotto team) Hope this summer Morey will present us the big picture/landscape and give us championships in years I would be very excited if i was the GM of Rockets. This is a great chance to play with other teams. We play the cards, we could impose our will to play, not by others. However the one and only downside is that we have to cost a little to get the bigger fish I am very patient with recent losses. When you are in a failure mode you are getting stronger Go Rox
I think I like this possibility a lot more than Iguodala. Sure, Caron is older and arguably not as talented, but I think he would be a good fit in our offense and he's got a much friendlier contract (short-term). That way, we go into next season and can compete ... then if it's not working out after next season, we're out of Caron's contract and can target a big name. Or we could even swing him this summer in a sign-and-trade for someone. With Iggy, we are stuck and have to ride-or-die with him. Butler is a moveable asset...and you never know what's going to become available. We'd have a LOT of nice pieces. I'm not giving up Scola unless we get Jamison, though. Mcgrady and Budinger is the most I'd give for Haywood/Butler.
This is the best offer???? Urrgghhhhh really.. Philly deal looks better than this. 26 years old has much more improvement than someone who is 30.. Let me add that A.I is a two way player
And waste Yao? Great plan. We're not winning a championship with Butler. Iggy gives us a better chance.
Looking at the statistics this deal is actually better than the Philly deal in my opinion. Haywood puts up the same numbers as Dalembert and is WAY cheaper. Iguodala is a star and has potential to get alot better but right now his numbers are just a tad bit better than Caron Butler. I wouldnt mind taking either deal but if we were to get Jamison in the deal as well we would have to give them Scola which i wouldnt mind doing at all.
There is not enough bargain in the Philly deal and to huge of a risk for the long term. Team is planing to make a run for the next 2 years rather then the size of Iggy's contract which is smart. Iggy is not enough to put this team over the top and neither is Butler, but with that being said Butler is less of the risk included for the long term planning.
You are right. Iggy would give us a better chance to win a championship if we were talking about going to battle with only Yao-Iggy or Yao-Butler, but we are not. This is what is being largely overlooked. Yao-Iggy is all you get, with Yao-Butler there is more to come -- Don't you trust DM? Folks, this is not your fantasy roster. If we add Iggy, we put our eggs in one 5 year basket and if it doesn't work out, you can tack on another 5 years of Tmac related threads in here.
