This might be the worst trade proposal I've ever seen. You're willing to trade a young guy who is playing all-star caliber basketball for the core of one of the worst teams in Basketball - all of whom are about 30. All because you're not sure if we'll be able to afford Landry in a year and a half when he's a free agent again. I'm just glad Daryl Morey is our GM and I don't have to actually worry about something like this happening.
Them wanting Battier or Scola makes no sense. And of course they want Landry but I dont think I'd trade Landry straight up for Butler right now, let alone giving them millions in financial relief. I'd give up Budinger or Lowry at most. If they want Battier, I'd ask for Haywood for sure and not take Stevenson. This would actually save us a ton of money.
I agree, I'll go a step further....If Battier is included they will have no choice but to include Haywood and I'd bold enough to ask for Mike Miller instead of junk like James or Stevenson. Having Battier off the payroll this offseason would be HUGE and it's something Morey has to look at very seriously.
The trade I'm proposing is not to win a champion ship now (Hence look at the length of the contracts ) but to stay more competitive. You are so high in Landry that you don't see his faults... We are constantly getting beaten (badly) by teams with height + Athleticism. Landry is only 6'8 - 6'9/shoes.. He's great if we are playing teams with small low post defenders but you cannot plug him in the 4 spot on a championship team.. Now if he's a backup (coming off the bench) great.. But were talking about giving Landry a hefty raise after next year... So you think about who do you want starting at the 4? Scola/Landry - Nope.. They both are great backups and one will have to go.. Everyone want's Landry because he's young and kinda exciting but who is going to cost more to the Rockets organization in the long run.. Wouldn't you rather have Scola at a cheaper long term contract and use that money towards a starting 4? Ala Bosh or use it to get a great SF or SG?
Agreed, but its a moot point cause I'm quite certain they would not want Battier anyways. They'll likely realistically ask for Bud, Lowry, or our 1st round pick (protected).
First, Landry is signed for a mere $3 mil next year (team option) while Scola is the free agent. Second, if we were to miraculously net a Bosh in the offseason you're gonna lose Scola anyways as his market value will more than double Landry's, and you're not gonna pay $17 to Bosh and another $6-7 to Scola. Lastly, if one is included in any deal with TMAC, it will be Scola cause his bird rights would go with him, making him valuable not only as an expiring, but if the trading party wanted to sign him, he'd be their restricted free agent. Landry's value (and Brooks too in fact) is just too high right now to be traded unless its for a mega deal IMO.
Call me nuts but If we could get Butler and Haywood's/Miller's bird rights i'd give them Battier AND a 1st rd pick(protected) considering it would be a low pick hopefully in the mid 20's. We could resign Miller, possibly Haywood and only slightly go over the LT with Battier's contract off the books this offseason.
WOW...I like Bell, if for nothing else then clotheslining Kobe, and Morrow being a REALLY good shooter. I would considering it strongly and adding the fact Bell is expiring I believe, it could work nicely.
Mid 20s, I applaud the optimism That pick imo will be anywhere from 11-18 (depending on the talent we get in a deal). And that pick could be just as beneficial to us as the Wizards, considering how good of a drafter Morey is...So honestly, I'd balk at a trade if they actually asked for Shane + 1st rounder. Most likely though they'll ask for Bud / Lowry + 1st rounder...
We could also trade Battier and Cook for Corey Maggette.... He might work in our offense. He is a system guy. I really like Raja Bell and Morrow though. I believe Anthony Morrow would thrive with Yao and Bell is a defensive beast.
See I truly believe adding Butler, Haywood and Miller we would address every issue the team has right now. Now if they ask for Budinger and a 1st rounder then ehhhhhhhhhhh but i'd still consider it. Scoring Wing - CHECK Big Man who can defend - CHECK Shooter - CHECK I think we would be a top 2 or 3 team in the West and thus a low draft pick. I agree Morey has drafted well but with Yao in the last year of his contract next season I'd go for it NOW and Morey can easily buy a second rounder so the impact could be minimal...of course this would be BEST case scenario.
As for a Wizards-Rockets deal, one source with knowledge of the talks says the obstacles preventing the teams from closing in on a McGrady deal haven't changed much. The Wizards are believed to be willing to surrender coveted center Brendan Haywood along with Butler but want a player from Houston's scrappy core -- such as Luis Scola, Carl Landry or Shane Battier -- that the Rockets aren't willing to surrender in addition to McGrady's $22.5 million expiring contract. Imho i think if he is traded the organization is going to regret it. Why lets see. They trade him and everything goes great. Cool. They trade him for someone who somehow doesn't fit and look. Wasted a huge chunk of expiring that goes to another team. All in all why would they risk trading him when they have only 2-3 months left of his services. We are struggling now. I saw if we continue to struggle why not say f it and let him play so he can earn a contract. No need for the organization do what they are doing and have other potential free agent targets look at what the organization is doing and think twice about signing with the Rockets.
