I doubt it's a matter of all that. Nothing gets done until the deadline approaches in any case. Teams won't admit to fans (not that some teams have that many) that they're flushing the rest of the season until the last second, and by the time of the deadline, everyone has an idea of what they're gonna get and not gonna get as far as give-and-take in these transactions. Knowing that JTaylor is getting some burn for the Vipers, learning the system a bit, might---MIGHT---just be the sign that Chase is a goner. Not necessarily, but he's easier to move than Ariza (unfortunately).
I cant understand how some people actually think we might move Landry or Brooks. It's not going to happen, but if it does, we'll be getting a ss in return. Budinger will be the piece we have to give up..who cares? He's a bench player, and always will be. He's easy to replace. He should NOT be the reason we dont pull the trigger on a trade.
Not sure if it's posted yet, but here's Jonathan Feigen's take on a trade: Personally, McGrady for Butler/Haywood/James would be excellent. However, it's just a matter of convincing Washington that saving $10M is worth losing Caron Butler. That's going to be a tough sell. Would I still do the trade if I had to include Landry? No. Brooks? No. Budinger? Maybe. Budinger's ceiling is Brent Barry which isn't something that you cannot pass up. We'd get Haywood this year to protect the paint and Butler to make an impact offensively, and keep Butler for next season to pair with Yao, with Haywood/James expiring and helping our cap situation, allowing us to re-sign Lowry/Scola. I think replacing Budinger with Butler may just be worth it.
I can't disagree with you more. Iggy is younger than Caron, and Iggy is a more willing (and able) passer than Caron. Guys, we are going to be getting Yao back, and an Adelman team at its best passes the ball around. IMHO opinion, with Battier and Ariza around we don't need another defensive stopper like Caron. I guess is we do this deal with Washington, we can still do the deal with Philly. If we pull of both, we might become the best 1-12 team in the league.
not to mention We would probably have Haywood's Bird rights. That could be good for us in a sign and trade.
Great post. THAT LINEUP is one that can contend with the Lakers and Celts. I would only addthat the Wizzards would want one of Lowry or Landry in addition to the C-Bud. ps. Why is Yao at the bottom of the center list?
I dont think most people are arguing that Iggi is the better player or fit even. Its that he's getting paid roughly 14 for the next few years and we'd be taking on Dalembert meaning there is a chance of losing Scola and/or Lowry in the offseason. Trading for Caron gives the team a ton of flexibility while at the same time getting a very good player.
Agree and plus Dalembert for another year at his salary or possibly getting Haywood a much cheaper, expiring contract and overall much better player tips the scale for a Wizards trade over a Sixer trade.
I'd play Dalembert alongside Yao for stretches. As for Scola, we'd be losing him in the trade for Caron anyway if I read things correctly.
Forgot to say that I hear you on the cap flexibility...but if we aren't discussing McGrady in a deal with Washington, we really aren't losing that flexibility then, are we?
Haywood is not an overall much better player. Haywood shoots free throws like Trevor. Dalembert is @84% He's within 2.2 pts. and < 1 reb. of Haywood in almost 7.5 fewer minutes. He also blocks more shots and assists at a much higher clip in fewer minutes. the contract is a legitimate point
Hasn't Butler missed a lot of games from various injuries the last few seasons? That worries me a bit. An example: 2008-09: Missed a total of 15 games due to illness/injury (three - sprained left ankle, 12/27-12/30; two - flu, 2/4-2/6; 10 - left hamstring, 3/2-3/6, 3/15-3/25). 2007-08: Missed 24 games (Wizards went 10-14) due to injury (sprained ankles, 12/22; hip flexor strain, 1/29-2/1, 2/6-3/11; left hamstring strain, 3/31; bruised right knee, 4/12-16). 2006-07: Missed 19 games due to injury/illness (lower back spasms, 2/25 – 2/28; left knee contusion, 3/17 - 3/26; right hand fracture, 4/3 – 4/18). http://www.nba.com/playerfile/caron_butler/bio.html That's the last three seasons. Looks like the majority of the injuries come from just getting banged up from playing hard. May be helped by a player like Yao, who would help creat space, as would Adelman's system. I was just pondering if this is worthy of concern or not.
Well the issue with that is if we do nothing and let him go, will we be able to sign a player better then Butler in the offseason with MLE money or slightly above it? Plus the ability to re-sign Haywood or Miller if he is included in a deal. Haywood would probably price himself out but a Good Backup center is crucial with Yao's health let alone a GREAT backup that Haywood would be.
Let me re-state it this way: we can deal McGrady to Philly for Dalembert and Iggy, AND deal Scola to Washington for Butler. So what if we lose Scola. We can use Landry and Hayes at the 4. With Landry's emergence, Scola is VERY expendable.
Our Bench would slaughter L.A's bench. You have 2 good perimeter defenders and Haywood is great at defending the post. Butler scores too. That's not even accounting for Yao's return.
But then we'd be paying $38 mil next year for just SG / SF positions (Battier, Ariza, Butler, Iggi) You can be as deep as you please but you only play 2 of these at a time. A bit redundant imo.
