Isn't this putting the cart before the horse? Are we really going to worry about matching up with Lamar Odom in the playoffs when the season hasn't even started? Besides, if we're predicting the future shouldn't we be more concerned with matching up with Kobe in May of next year (which is Battier's reason for existence)? Not to mention, Ariza can guard these hybrid 3/4 guys just fine and Battier can handle the pure SF.

This would be a great move. J. Jeff is an NBA player but he fills a role already taken by a superior Chuck Hayes. Chandler would fill a need at literally no cost. Hopefully Chandler and Yao could keep each other's minutes down and both stay healthy.

Giving up Patterson for Chandler is a mistake,I wouldn't even give the NY pick(s) for him.

Just curious...how are trade exceptions created...especially ones (14.1M and 16.6M) that large?

While I can share the same sentiment with you in regards to Jeffries' defense (he's not bad but he's not someone you would call a defensive stopper), his true value (maybe his ONLY value) to the Rockets and Morey is his contract.

If we are going forward with Hill and Patterson, I would like to see them actually taking away Jeffries' minutes so that they can actually develop their overall game. After all, I'm sure you can agree with me that both players have ceilings that are higher than Jeffries'

Who is most motivated to make this trade?
    1) Miami
    2) Charlotte (apparently they are the only team that really likes Beasley as a prospect).

Houston is just trying to "get in on the action" here. Morey has a value set for the trade and I am sure has stated his case. He will call Toronto's bluff for more value.

You send a player to team A that has a contract worth 15 million they can absorb it without sending you anything back because they are under they cap by at least 15 million (plus or minus 100,000). You know our the proud owner of a 15 Million trade exception. Now if the had sent you back beasley with his 5 million contract you still would have created a trade exception for your team, only it would now be 10 million. 15 mil minus the 5 million contact you took back.

Now if this 4 team trade went thru Toronto would get a trade exception but for Houston to acquire Chandler they would have to send a minimum of $10,120,000.00 in order to make things work. That could work by sending jeffries to Charlote but they would also have to send somethin to toronto. The only thing I see working is either Hill or Andersen plus Taylor or Budinger. Correct me if I am wrong. Maybe there is somme way to send or exception to Charlotte and they send a player to toronto.

You wouldn't give up Jefferies for Chandler?

Wait you can trade a player for nothing? I am confused. I thought there was that 25% rule.

No he cant. Even vs la, he had trouble with artest in the post. Ariza can guard certain guys with his length and battier is going down even quicker and he's coming back off an injury. I'm not saying either are deal breakers, I'm looking at winning those regular season games and gaining playoff positioning and getting in the playoffs and matching up. The playoffs are all about matchup.

Good post. Rockets will adding some much needed size to contend with the Lakers and forbidding layup drills from other teams. Also having frontcourt depth at the 4. I'm up for this deal, lets get it done.

I believe if teams are under the cap they don't need to match salaries to make a trade work, someone please confirm that.

Who else would be going out? Jeffries only makes about half of what Chandler makes.

you can trade for a player as long as you have cap space in the amount of his contract. Doing so generates a TPE(traded player exception) in that amount.

Not sure if it's been posted in these 19 pages of redundancy, but Tyson Chandler plays with an attitude. A fire, passion, dare I say anger that these good guy rockets don't really have on the roster. I don't see a junk yard dog Mario Elie type on this team. I would like to see that kind of intinsity in this locker room, besides, the thought of a 6-11 Jeffires who can't dunk taking any of Hill/Patterson's minutes makes my stomach turn.

(and for all that is holy, please god don't post the bloody Battier pic from the Lakers series)
