Parsons should just shut his f**** up! He is getting to the JR Smith level now, talking other players contract/play situation.

Houston started Asik for 8 games but now are sitting him to protect their investment. The team is sacrificing wins to experiment with backups. If it were actually true, that would be stupid.

I have no problem with this except for the fact that either Asik or his agent have been leaking trade demands to the media. It certainly wouldn't be the Rockets leaking that info. It reduces our ability to deal him, which is bad for us and him.

Now that it's out and he's been benched, his value is very low and we won't get as much for him, making a trade less appealing.

Most people would say they sacrificed wins by playing Asik extended minutes with Dwight.

not really... he is not talking about Asiks contract lol he is talking about Asik professionalism... nothing to do with contract...

professionalism = playing and doing your job... regardless of your situation...

of which asik did 0% of the last 2 games and a half assed effort during the philly game...

So he's been requesting a trade every week since July and some of you say that it's not a distraction to a team that has aspirations of contending.....riiiight.

Also, what's with all these Houston Rockets players quitting (see T-Mac, T-Will, Royce White, and now Asik). Glad to know that Omer has his team's back. Can't wait to see him play again

He signed a contract and as a professional you have an obligation to honor that agreement. All the other stuff you're talking about is immaterial.

Good god, Marc Stein's writing style is irritating! Also, this notion that Asik won't be traded until 12/15 at the earliest is dumb. The Rockets' options increase on 12/15, this is true, but there are plenty of pre-12/15 trade possibilities that can happen at any time. An Asik + Motiejunas for L. Deng swap can happen right now, for example.

Also, who cares about Iman Shumpert, and whether or not he gets traded? Aren't there more interesting things to talk about?

Whats interesting about this report from Stein (and that I mentioned might be an option a couple days ago) is that the Rockets might actually be looking outside the PF position for an impact player regardless.

The Asik for Anderson swap was something that was obviously an option this Summer, but for some reason both teams think they can do better in the long run by just keeping their guys for future deals or for their own teams. Also I think both GM's just hate the idea of trading with each other.... Probably mostly Morey not wanting to make the Pelicans better.

One name I think we shouldn't forget to mention is Nic Batum. I think he's a perfect fit for this team, and instantly makes this team 10X better defensively. Also Granger if he shows he can still play at a high level coming back from injury.

Adding another guard into the rotation is a bit of a concern without one going out, but I'm sure that Morey wouldn't mind at all upgrading from Beverley as a starter, and keeping Lin in his very productive 6th man role. Ideally you probably wouldn't want to look at moving Lin along with Asik unless you are bringing back an all-star caliber PG.

Regardless, Stein is onto something when he is basically telling us here that Houston is holding their chips close to the table, making sure they leave no stone unturned, and are going to move him for the best possible deal... not just for someone's chump change PF.

Everyone has their point of view. Obviously for the team Omer as a professional back-up is a great option. And perhaps long term it might even be an okay open for Omer, if he shines in the time allotted to him.

But it's not like he doesn't have a legitimate grievance. He left the bulls to start here, expecting to be the starting centre. He did an amazing job for the team last season and now he's been replaced, just like that. He's got two seasons before his next and probably last BIG contract. He's got every reason to be unhappy and agitate for a move where he can better showcase his talents and his value.

He's already been the back up, he's worked his way to be a fantastic starting centre in the league and he's not too keen on his career moving backwards.

Now we can debate about whether or not this is really the case (being a backup here being not so good for his next paycheck/career) but that's probably how he feels and not without some justification.

It's easy to say contract this contract that, but there was also an understanding with Omer by the Rockets when he signed that's no longer applicable in terms of his role here. If you told him he would be a backup here this year he might not have signed in the first place.

Nothing new here. If you know Morey's M.O., he is ALWAYS looking for VALUE. BPA. Same as when he drafts. VALUE, VALUE, VALUE. Players can always be moved.

This is precisely why I don't think the Rockets would do a Ryan Anderson for Asik trade if N.O. was up for it. Rockets would feel they wouldn't get enough VALUE. Morey is not going to shoe-horn in "fits." If you get VALUE + FIT then great. But VALUE first.

    Did I mention VALUE?

Why would Portland let him go; he is highly regarded there? And would they want to sit Lopez?

Highly regarded if they are in win-now mode. The trick for him to be let loose is for the Blazers to start sliding a bit.

Batum is getting paid 35+ mil these next 3 years.

When they matched Minny's offer a few years back, I think they were hoping he would turn the corner into an all-star level player. He's not that now but he's still a very useful player to the right team.

Lets be honest that he is an overpaid player, but on the Rockets what he gives them makes up for splurging a little bit. With Portland it just depends on how close they really think they are in competing for titles. They need to be convinced that they need more youthful star power to start thinking about unloading their large vet salaries.

The 9-2 start is really not helping the cause of those teams wanting their veterans in trade.

Rather than looking at Nic Batum as a darkhorse trade candidate I think we should consider Deron Williams as a possible darkhorse candidate in a blockbuster special for Asik and Lin. Nets are stinking it up. All their guys are looking very average..including DWill. I think if there is a possible star/superstar darkhorse trade candidate that it could be DWill.

Agreed that Nicolas Batum would be a great fit for Houston but I can't imagine that PDX is motivated to make that deal. Asik + Parsons for Batum, though, might work. Batum is A LOT better than Parsons although maybe PDX won't think so.

    D. Granger's career is nearing an end. His only value is as an expiring contract, it appears.

Agreed on DWILL as a darkhorse. Rockets had interest in him in the past.

Lin in the NY Market is GOLD. And right now the Nets are getting good play out of Livingston.

Fatty DWILL hasn't played well recently but he is a talent at PG.
