Obviously Morey went after him a few years ago right before he was traded so he was high on him at one time. That being said... how many great Deron Williams moments have we had since he was traded from Utah.... and then how many negative Deron Williams moments have we seen since then. I'm not saying D-Will isn't something the Rockets should explore, but given the past 3 years, I really dont know if he's someone I love the idea of trading half my team for. Lin and Asik aren't half the team, but keep in mind that Brook Lopez is considered a big part of their franchise up there in Brooklyn and moving Asik in any deal up there creates the need for a 3rd team at least. And then there is the leadership issue. Does this team really want to bring in a potentially fading superstar player with questionable leadership issues? I think its a legit question that would have to be answered. Also from a salary perspective, the guy is making 22 mil in 2016/17. that contract has the ability to be Amaresque if he declines any more than he has already. They would be stuck with the leagues worst contract in that case with no way to upgrade the team if they underperformed.... that's a scary proposition.
I would think the Rockets would be facing a tough call if the deal had to have Parsons in it to get done. I would think they would try to counter Portland with draft picks instead. I would think the Rockets would love to have the ability of playing Parsons and Batum together. As Parsons continues to get stronger every offseason dont be surprised if he finds his way into regular PF minutes later in his career. If they said Parsons or no deal, and had no interest in 1st round picks, its a tough call, and not sure one I could make if I was the GM. -With Granger... not sure. He looked to be moving pretty well in the preseason and then something happened that put him back on the shelf.... can't recall what injury he has now. For me he's just have to prove that he can play before I trade for him. There are a few months left until the trade deadline to see if he can still play. If he can give you 80% of what he was before the injury, its not a bad tradeoff in a 3 team deal that sends Asik elsewhere... maybe the Knicks get Asik & trade Shumpert to Indiana... not sure about salaries, but something similar could work.
No thanks to DW. Suddenly got Steph Curry ankles, in and out of the lineup, can't stay healthy, not worth that contract. 2012-13: $17,177,795 2013-14: $18,466,130 2014-15: $19,754,465 2015-16: $21,042,800. 2016-17: $22,331,135 {Early Termination Option}
To me, an interesting part of the Stein piece is that people inside the Rockets consider Asik their third best player. This conforms with the result of RAPM from last year, where Asik was by far better than anyone but Harden.
[Deleted] , didn't see J.R.'s reply b4 posting. Don't want DW either. I don't think anyone doubted that (maybe except the Lin fanatics). It is too bad that they couldn't make it (or willing to let it) work.
The Rockets will not trade Parsons to upgrade at PF. Parsons gives us a pretty good player at a great price. As such, he frees up several million in cap space, which helps us buy more talent. TJones is becoming the same thing. In fact, if we can keep TJones as our 4, it enables us to trade Parsons, an excellent trading chip. However, if we trade Parsons for a 4, we're taking 2 cap hits, for maybe $8-10 million. We won't do it.
A couple of years ago you could have made a serious case that DWILL was right on par with CP3. Amazing how far he has fallen in a few years.
Asik for Kevin Garnett might be a good deal. Smart defensive player with servicable offense. Contract is just the right length. Good veteran leadership.
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/64224/truehoop-tv-rocky-start-for-coach-kidd Stein on Truehoop TV discussing a few topics. The Asik talk is toward the end. Pretty much said the same thing as his article.
So Asik and is here till Dec 15 and Anderson seems unlikely so that means Paul Milsap or Ersan Ilyasova or a magic trick from Morey that we all didn't see coming ..
