Change the title. As far as I can tell, there is no connection to Mark Stein.

I dont think we should do anything that will potentially take us away from being prime players in teh 2010 free agency. I think wit Yao ming comin back and the core that we have, we are missing just one piece (scorer, playmaker) that will take us over the top (barring any injury). So plz. Morey. Dont do anything that will hinder that. Have faith in this team, and let MCslacky rott on the bench for the "im shutting it down" ish he pulled last year.

In fact. there is no link to Marc Stein. Just a link to a post by some Hack on Real GM that posted this. You have a link to Marc Stein's actual report?

Dude wake up and stop fantasizing about 2010!!! we can't be "prime" players in the 2010 free agency no matter what we do. If we let McGrady expire, we can be MLE type players and that's it. Read Bimathugs thread about the cap. We will only have about 7 million to spend

Everyone's ignoring the best part of this trade: brian cook goes elsewhere!

But this trade makes sense for all 3 teams inasmuch as the two rebuilding ones (Washington and NYK) get nothing but expiring contracts, while NY might get a little ticket-sale boost with t-mac.

Washington sets themselves up to clear their roster out this summer, so long as they can get someone to bite on Jamison (probably Cleveland), Haywood (probably Portland) and arenas (no clue).

Houston gets a scoring wing who *can* pass (but doesn't always do it necessarily. check out basketball-reference.com for info on that) and another almost-7-footer. Like others have said, this also makes players like battier marketable. Personally, I think this trade, coupled with the signing of a bench scorer not named Landry (could use another scorer on that bench, and it could be Wafer; he's up for re-evaluation soon and could end up coming here if the money's right) could make us a great team very, very quickly.

Mark "Oy Vey" Stein and Les "Matzah Master" Alexander wonder this as well. Rick "Passover not Turnovers" puts on his monocle and thinks.

I guess the trade would look like this:
    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhbsqcq

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=985714&start=45 (5th post from the bottom)

    - Every contract is expiring, except Blatche and Butler (who expires next summer).

    - Blatche is under contract for the next 2 season (this year not included), though we are essentially trading him for Brian Cook (for this season). But

    - This deal probably favors New York more than anyone else, they're dumping the most salary ($23 million), Washington is dumping $34 million, as Houston is dumping about $26.7 million (T-Mac and Cook) but picking up $22.3 with only $9.5 coming off the books this summer. Which would roughly give them a small 9.6 million to spend from T-Mac's expired salary (unless they decide not to take Butler or Blatche for anything beyond this season).

    - This probably hurts the Rockets chances of acquiring a big name FA, while trying to resign Scola, Hayes, Lowry, and Landry. Though, I don't really like our chances of getting Wade or LeBron. (delusional to think so and pure fantasy). Amare will be unlikely, possibly Bosh. Joe Johnson is probable. Ray Allen and Manu are past their prime.

    - Also, 2011, you have Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, and Yao Ming becoming FAs . Not as many superstars are available in 2011, but it is much deeper class of FAs, though.

    - Here's the last part, does our owner want to spend alot for a quality team...I mean we could spend, like Dallas or LA and end up with pretty well-rounded roster. Though, I doubt Les wants to pay the almighty luxury tax.

I would go a step further and say close it down until there's further confirmation. I'm tired of checking the boards, seeing a vague or misleading title, getting excited, then reading something that either could be put in an existing thread or not posted at all.

I logged in just to bring this up. It's the first rumor I've seen that involved Cook, so thusly it is the first trade that I am excited about.

Ok, not really, but ***** Cook.

The "source" or post has been locked up. I'm guessing this one should be too.

I like this deal and I would love this deal if it was followed up with Ariza and Scola to Sacramento for Kevin Martin.
