No, I understand you. I just disagree. Well, I agree about 2010. He isn't in form to really help someone this season -- or at least I don't think anyone would count on it.

What I disagree about is the one-year rental. Teams can look at a trade for McGrady as buying an option for the '10-'11 season. If they think he will regain his form and be a good player again, trading for him now gives them a huge edge in the offseason to re-sign him. They will have his bird rights and McGrady's goodwill. So, a team could be coveting McGrady's talent as well as his contract.

So, it absolutely does matter whether McGrady gets a chance to play this season or not. A showcase will allow teams to speculate on how good he might be in 2011 and put a value on the Bird Rights they could trade for this season.

Ariza's body of work over the last 3 seasons is more impressive than McGrady's...

He starred in the NBA finals, he is shooting better on THIS season than McGrady, and he's contributing in categories across the board.
We might be "stuck" with him, but it's better than being "stuck" with McGrady, that's for damn sure!

McGrady won't hit waivers UNLESS the team waives him. Absolutely no way that happens.
The only chance of a buyout is if McGrady takes little enough money to get us under the lux tax level. And even that is questionable (Morey might prefer to move Cook + a second to get us out of tax land).
I guess we'll see what happens - but the Rockets brass has done the RIGHT thing in the whole scenario by not pandering to a guy who screwed the organisation over in the past.

To win some games. I don't know about you but we don't have that great of a record. Better than expected for sure.

But McGrady led teams have done better with less roleplayers.

You put T-mac into the mix and we'd have a stronger record - history has shown that.

Rockets should offer T-mac a buyout for $1 if he doesn't get traded. I wonder if he would take it.

Sure he would, once you add $10 with the letters 'million' after.

He's still getting paid for sitting. Also he could probably come back and play within role given to him. He just didn't want to do that.

I think the fact that we're not buying him out is evidence that Morey thinks he has good value as a player. If we didn't think he could help anyone it would be an easier decision to just buy him if nothing materializes on the trade front.
