Though I agree with everything you said about Gasol being a team player, I still don't see how Gasol can elevate this offense from where it already is, which is the only reason Morey would make big a trade. I just don't see the benefit in terms of all the pieces we would have to give up like Anderson (salary) and Capela (value).
Um......no. He doesn't fit the system. He is 33 with injury issues. NO THANKS. Especially, with his contract.
I dunno, I'm sure he'd love the chance to rub Morey's face in it. The decision to not draft him, I mean, not his man boobs.
Clint won. Harden's defense was atrocious on the game point and Capela had a nice block. Morey lost he won't trade Capela.
How much does Marc Gasol's game really depend on his athletic abilities? I love Clint Capella but Marc makes us a damn scary team if he can keep up with our speed. He's a healthier version of Nene. Marc can shoot from all parts of the floor and doesn't just rely on dunking. He is also a very under rated and smart passer/ defender. We have no asset to give memphis besides pieces we really can't afford to give up at this point and is Marc Gasol really worth it...
To get any major piece to help us contend THIS YEAR, Ryno has to be a part of the trade. If Ryno continues to play as he has so far this year, I could only see us moving him for PG13, Cousins, or Gasol if he is moved. With that being said, I doubt Morey will move both Ryno and Capela to get any of those players. With the way the team is playing, Morey may would only move Black, Williams, Chee, overseas prospects and draft picks. Basically I only expect us to pick up one more player, someone who is bought out that can be insurance for us this year during the playoffs. If we keep winning at this pace, Morey won't mess with our rotation by moving two of our 9 man rotation....maybe a Ryno plus Moute for PG13 is about it. Well....or something similar for Cousins. But not Capela, imho.
I don’t think think we have the assets to acquire Marc so it’s a moot discussion but he would absolutely make us a legit contender. Short term speaking (2-3 year window) I’d absolutely take him over PG13 if given the choice and I’m a big George fan. To the guys that say he’s old, unathletic and doesn’t fit the system. The first 2 are debatable the last one is absurd. Marc has an old man’s game and he never relied on athleticism to become one of the leagues elite big men during his prime stretch. He has the type of game that translates to a long career in the league and his true value is always displayed in the playoffs when the games inevitably slow down, defenses are locked in and having a half-court offense becomes vital. We can not and will not beat GSW by trying to beat them at their own game by out shooting or outscoring them in a 7 game series. Nobody can. We have to be DIFFERENT. For all the dumb things Barkley has ever said one thing I can’t disagree with is when he said we’re built for the regular season. He’s not wrong (for the reasons I mentioned above). Gasol would change that. He can anchor the paint, has post moves, superb passer that can find the open shooter or dish to the cutter, can step out to defend other bigs with range, high basketball IQ and in a 7 game series his big ass body will wear opponents down. He can and will neutralize Draymond and their death lineup, make into so KD doesn’t get easy buckets at the rim and he can help us win ugly games (in the playoffs can’t avoid them). Capela has made major improvements this season but I’m not sold on him replicating the same success in the playoffs (if he does pay and lock him up) and as great as Nene I hate banking on him as our only other big with his risk for injury.
Like Cousins, Gasol is a Morey pipe dream. He most definitely would seek all the options to try to get either player. A good center with low-post and 3pt shooting abilities will somehow make this offense even scarier.
I don't think Gasol necessarily needs to keep up with our "speed." Even though our offense is amazing, it's not the run-n-gun Suns; Harden and Paul do really well in a half-court offense. The only "knock" I can see on Gasol, is how many times he'll want the ball, in the post. Granted, Gasol isn't trying to prove himself (a la Dwight) by trying to be something he's not. But I think the offense will bog down if Harden/Paul just toss the ball inside to Gasol and wait for him to do stuff. Harden/Paul + Capela works well because it's PnR all the time, forcing the defense to react. Unless everyone cuts early and often when Gasol would have the ball in the post, it just because ball watching by the other 4 Rockets, waiting for Gasol to do something.
