Okay, so let's say Starbury HAS gotten the shaft from the Knicks this year. Cry a tear for him if you must.

But let's not feel so sorry for him that we actually offer him a contract. The fact remains that damn near every team he's been on had a better record the year before he arrived and the year after he left than they ever did WHILE HE WAS PLAYING FOR THEM.

Great stats, lots of highlight-reel moments, etc. And sure, we could sign him for some low amount. But WHY would you want to do that when Marbury has a long record of making teams WORSE?
Look,

You bring him in for the veteran's minimum and give him a month, if he doesn't work out, you cut him...no big deal.

I dug this up from an old thread because so many of you are convinced that Marbury would improve our team. Well, history says emphatically that he wouldn't:

Now THAT is one ugly-ass record for a PG. Thanks, but no thanks.

Ok I just watched this for the first time, wtf is wrong with this guy? Was he dropped on his head or has he always been like this? I don't remember him being like this in Minnesota. This video alone should show people, you don't want to pair him with Artest on this team I have a feeling Artest would punch this sucka out for being so f'ing weird.

    Cassell took over in NJ
and Nash took over in Phoenix

both significantly better players than him.

How can you not love a guy that fires back at Screaming A. Smith by making a video? Starbury is pure entertainment. Not to mention that he makes $15 shoes for kids that are less fortunate.

Well... exactly! Bring in a good PG and your team will probably be pretty good. Bring in a BAD PG like Marbury and your team will SUCK.

The primary concern of a good point guard is to make his team better by running the offense properly, making sure the players and the ball are where they're supposed to be, keeping everyone involved, etc. Marbury has consistently demonstrated that he pretty much sucks at those qualities. The PG should be like a coach on the court -- why would you want to bring in a coach with a losing record to run your team?

I just don't get the Starbury love I see on this site. The guy is a loser with a capital L. He's been a headache at every stop in his career. Let some dolt like Donald Sterling sign him so he can be someone else's headache.
So....are you making the point that Rafer Alston is better than Stephon Marbury or that we will somehow after dropping Steph, get a Kidd-Nash caliber PG.

Atleast i can understand not liking a guy but the only question that matters is: Is he better than Rafer? If the answer to that is yes and you can get him for the minimum you're improving the rockets period.

That's not the question to ask. The REAL question to ask -- and the only question that should matter -- is: Will he make your team better? And in Marbury's case, despite his formidable talent, there's a buttload of evidence that says your team will be WORSE if you add him, regardless of who your current PG might be.

I'd make the argument that at any other position, you can hide problems a player like Marbury introduces to a team. At PG, though, those problems become magnified.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering to argue against him anyway, because there's no way Morey would do this. He's way too smart a GM and way too savvy when it comes to gathering and evaluating data to bring Marbury in.
Its always been a trade though. He's never been brought in as a minimum salary guy. Your 'buttload of evidence' is perfect for those situations but ours is very different. We're starting out with nothing and we would be getting him for nothing.

If you are saying you don't think he can make this team better than you are saying Rafer is better for our team because that's whose minutes he would be taking. I just think its worth the non-risk to get a player who is clearly better then our PG.

I don't think its necessarily the love for Marbury, instead I think its the hatred for Rafer that makes this a viable option. Let's face it we can not win a championship with Rafer starting at PG. Everyone says that we can deal with it if we are healthy, but look at the last three or four seasons, it is highly unlikely that this team will ever be fully healthy.

What I'm saying is that Marbury -- the whole package -- is likely to reduce the number of wins our team will get, regardless of what salary we can get him for. His skills as a player are more than offset by the prima donna attitude, the needless drama, the sulking in the locker room, etc. These have been his trademarks long before his blowup with D'Antoni -- the guy has killed every team he's ever played for, even while he was putting up great stats. He's the exact opposite of what a PG should be.
Marbury is way better than Rafer and Head combined will ever be. Rockets need to go after him asap when he gets bought out or cut or whatever. He's a playmaker and can hit open shots. All the reports say that he came into camp in great shape and he's in a contract year. With personalities like Artest on this team, Stephon will not be a problem, but will instead be another weapon this team can really use. I don't wanna hear anything about him being a bone head on or off the court. He's done more for the community that Rafer Alston who gets arrested every season. Skip 2 My Lou, as we witnessed last night, actually things he's good enough to get into one on one battles with opposing pgs who are head and shoulders above him talent wise. If you can tolerate the pathetic excuse that is Rafer Alston as this team's starting pg, you should be able to stomach Marbury being a Rocket. We are in win now mode! The situation is desperate! People don't seem to have a sense of urgency! Sign Starbury asap if you can't get Ramon Sessions!

LOL, DaDa, I can see you performing some kind of basketball ritual in front of your locker with a dead chicken and some rum before you choose a player to support.

Not dissing you at all...just a funny image that popped into my head reading your support for Marbury.
