I don't smoke weed (well a few times a year I do) but I never buy it.

When I was in high school or college I knew lots of folks who smoked all the time and so when it was offered to me I would smoke.

Don't think it's bad and I wish it was legal so that we could tax the hell out of it.

The plant, cannabis sativa, is illegal. The plant, papaver somniferum, is legal. BOING!

The laws governing substances in this country (and many others) is contradictory and its most fundamental level.

Marihuana does little to no harm whatsoever when compared to alcohol and cigarettes (and many other prescription and over-the-counter drugs).

Filling prisons with perpetrators of "victim-less" crimes, such as marihuana possession, is absurd and costs tax-payers millions of dollars annually.

A pot head out driving around high caused an accident which permanently disabled my little brother on Christmas of 1977. The last thing I want to see it a law allowing the legalization on pot allowing stoners on the road.

sad story but the same argument could be said for alcohol, which hurts and kills many more people.

So we should add another legalized intoxicating substance into these stats?

I will never change my mind.

a lot of people wont. doesnt mean they are right though. Unfortunately, people get hurt by vehicles no matter what...smoking weed, drunk driving, talking on the cell, changing the radio station, not checking their blind spot, etc.

was the guy just a pot head or was he actually high? was he drinking?

I'm sure this has been stated already - but you mean weed has never been legal since 1937 I suppose...

It should be legal to grow your own for personal use.

while that is a tragedy, that form of logic is incredibly flawed. and no one here has said anything about making it legal to drive on.

Surprise! I'm in favor of legalizing it. I graduated with honors in college back when I was smoking every day. Gee, somehow I didn't become a r****d despite my copius blunt intake.

As someone who's done a lot of personal research on both, I can tell you that weed is a lot healthier than booze. For example, I've never gotten a hangover from weed. Weed has never made me vomit. No one has ever been killed by overdosing on weed. The list goes on and on.

It's hypocritical and silly for there to be this double standard. I don't think non-smokers really realize how many people actually smoke weed. Think of it this way: In ANY CONVENIENCE STORE YOU ENTER, there are enough pot smokers who patronize the place that THE STORE CARRIES AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS OF ROLLING PAPERS. That's right, there are enough pot smokers out there that every convenience store in town not only carries rolling papers, but a SELECTION of rolling papers. That's not even counting the Swisher Sweets and cigarros... hey, guess what, nobody actually smokes Swisher Sweets!

Yet somehow our society continues to function. Weed may be illegal, but it's all around you every day. Why not tax it? I'd much rather my recreation money go to reputable growers and distributers and the government that a bunch of thugs and growers in Mexico.

I'll speculate that if weed becomes legal, the numbers for weed will be the same or even greater for DUIs.

why? because more people will smoke? because since its "legal" all the smokers will starting smoking it while they drive? (as if they dont already)

Don't know if anyone has responded to this because I stopped reading here. Just want to point out quickly that cannabis has been legal in this country longer than it has been illegal. Base your stuff on facts please.

Yes, if it's legal I'm guessing there will be more smokers, and due to it's availability some people will smoke more. So when all those numbers go up you figure the number of people who are stupid enough to smoke while driving will go up too. I'm just using common sense that all numbers will go up if it were legal. It just occurred to me now that the flaw in my logic would be the number of pot smokers would equal alcohol drinkers. But who knows, it could be. I think it could be close though, don't forget casual smokers (once in awhile, on occassion).

Anyways, it would be the same as if alcohol were suddenly illegal and more difficult to get ahold of I think DUIs would go down to a certain extent.

Look, it's not an attack on pot smokers or anything. Just an analysis of numbers. I doubt an increase in people smoking weed would NOT increase DUIs due to pot.
