Good post. So Morey was the first to put protections on a pick and back-loaded deals?

Don't want to work with him
    Not looking to help him
    Won't pick up the phone
    Blah blah blah

Usually gets a deal done if he has to. Of course that's trades. Free agency, Rockets as a whole, not so successful.

So you've heard those rumors about other GM's and Morey, too?

Of course that's out there. Not denying that. You hear it from the national media guys.

You heard this offseason how no one is looking to help the Rockets form a big three, no one is looking to help the Rockets move Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik, those two will be hard to move, so on and so forth.

Well, they moved Asik. They moved Lin(albeit having to attach a 'sweetener'). Moved Royce White last year.

I don't doubt that Morey rubs folks the wrong way and/or teams/GMs don't want to work with him but seems overblown or overstated.

Again, for all the talk of how they don't want to work with him, not looking to help him, won't pick up the phone, has he or hasn't he gotten deals done?

I'm glad you are familiar with this rumor. People in this thread are acting like this is some random rumor that they've never heard before.

I thought it was a pretty common narrative.

I rather have a GM that other GMs "don't like the way he does business" or "won't pick up his phone calls" than a GM that is loved by every GM in the NBA. The former most likely got his reputation because he was able to do things (trading for a star just entering in his prime; convincing an elite player to play in a smaller market compared to his former team) that other GMs have a hard time doing (e.g. they hatin'). The latter is one that gets reamed up the butt in trades and more GMs are willing to pick up his phone call because they're about to fleece him.

I don't think anybody has real evidence indicating how GMs, Agents, or Players feel about Morey. Everything is speculation.

I'm guessing that people don't like him because his moves tend to turn out very lopside despite seeming reasonable at first. GMs are hesitant to make deals in which they feel they might get fleeced.

Players and agents are worried that they might get flipped at a moment's notice. Players who care about the environment of the team would take that into their calculus when deciding to sign.

Still, money and value remain king. If Morey offers you a great deal, you're gonna take it despite reputation. However, if you have equivalent offers from Morey and Cuban, our GM's reputation probably doesn't help.

This. The NBA is divided between the new school savvy businessmen and the old school good old boy/players network. The old school is threatened by Morey's success in transforming his roster and all the discussion he gets in the media for it.

To sum it up: haters gonna hate

Anthony was on an @$$ kissing tour and stopped by long enough to have a cup of coffee before he headed to Dallas. Bosh stopped by the last time Morey tried to get him too. Even LeBron's agent was kind enough to call and say, "Lol."

The heat probably planned to give Bosh the max from the get go if LeBron left. I seriously doubt they just decided to do it in the last 5 minutes.

Yes. Trevor Ariza is a free agent signing. Yeaaaa....!!!!

Fegan and Cuban probably had something to do with how Parsons contract was structured just in case Morey did match it so he couldn't trade him. I think Morey would have matched if it wasn't for the way that contract was structured and Morey doesn't like to give players on Parsons level the player option (like Dragic wanted). Parsons getting $15 million is one thing but getting a no trade clause in the 1st year...??? That's suspicious as hell.

They wont pick up the phone for Morey. Sampson is the master of texting. We struck out because Sampson is at UH. Maybe Oden can help us out via MMS. Get it done.

If you like our GM being hated around the league, then I don't wanna hear any pouting when Cuban, Bosh or Fegan goes out their way to screw us. Part of being a good GM is building relationships. Daryl Morey comes across as arrogant and so does his cult here on clutchfans. Don't complain when deals stop getting done. Remember, you guys like being hated around the league
