RIP. Truly a sad loss He lived a full 47 years. Did things most of us couldnt do in 147 years. As a player Manute Bol was a project turned gimmick, but he was DEVASTATINGLY effective at blocking shots. He almost averaged as many blocked shots as he did rebounds lol. He did impact games on defense. He led the league in blocks twice coming off the bench. Was just a short time ago, but already seems that was a totally different era in basketball. There was more character in the league, in a good way. People like Bol and Mugsy Bogues and Spud Webb could poke fun at themselves. Nowadays players like Earl Boykins take themselves way too seriously, like if you talk about his height he'll jab a knife into your ribs.
Friday morning I watched a slide presentation made by a friend of mine who just came back from a medical mission to the Sudan. He had to treat a guy who had been stuck by another guy with a spear. The fellow died and it was due to his whistling the other guy's tune-- some kind of identifying sound that "belonged" to the other fellow. RIP, Manute. You were a gentleman and a precious soul.
RIP Manute. You were a gracious man who did a lot to help your country. I have a few Sudanese friends from high school. I never knew who Manute Bol was until they told me. They really saw Manute as a role model. My sudanese mates are first cousins of Luol Deng, all the way in Australia.
Can you expand on this a little bit? why did the man whistle? thanks. RIP to MB. There's a really tall lanky player whom my cousin and I always make fun of since he's so similar to Manute. All blocks, no offense. Now we'll probably feel bad bringing him up. At least for a few weeks. Didn't MB get into a real bad car accident a few years go, early 2000's? they said he would've surely died had he not been an athlete (heard it on the radio). He died way too young for an ex-athlete.
Seeing all his documentary makes me ashamed of myself. I love my country but I have to admit I can't place my love for my country WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY more than about myself. That man just won't stop aiding his country although he ran out of resources. RIP Manute Bol. You have done your country proud.
Great shot. Rest well Manute. Thank you for your huge frame in the league and an also huge heart for your country. We salute you.
I just found out myself. Here's the article that brought his death to my attention. http://pagingdrgupta.blogs.cnn.com/2010/06/22/did-compassion-kill-manute-bol/?hpt=T2 RIP Manute Bol
