ROFL. I remember when I first saw that. So awesome. I can't believe Rick Mahorn fit his big ass dome piece through that hole.
Really, really tall... R.I.P. http://www.kansascity.com/2010/06/19/2029405/humanitarian-and-basketball-star.html
Mr. Manute Bol is a Very Special Person & NBA player that did everything he could to help the people in his homeland of Sudan who still face genocide today. He will be missed... These quotes from Bol himself, which you can see in the second video, are as telling as any: "It was 1991. This was the first time I had seen Sudan on TV and I saw it, the Sudan government were killing my people. I say no. This cannot be right. I have to do something, you know? I decided to be a fighter. I feel I made a lot of money. I should give it back to my people." “He’s pleased that he accomplished what he was so determined to do in Sudan,” Prichard said. “He was fighting with every bit of his strength to try to keep Southern Sudan on course towards a referendum in January of next year. … It put him right on the edge of survival, and he made it.” http://www.midwestsportsfans.com/2010/06/manute-bol-ill-kidney-failure-sudan-basketball-warrior/ http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1002550.htm Hopefully one day the Sudanese government will actually care for their own people as much as they do about their oil and natural resources...
Manute Bol was truly a great man. I remember back in the early days of reality TV when he did "Celebrity Boxing" by fighting William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Most of the people who did that show were washed-up former celebrities with no pride and just looking for an easy buck. Manute was the one person who cared more about who he could help with that money than what people thought of him for doing the show. Not much makes me cry, but I cry whenever I think of his unparalleled selflessness. Rest in peace, sir.
I never watched him play before (other than highlights) but I watched a documentary on Manute Bol a few years ago and was amazed by his generosity and courage. The world lost a great man today. RIP.
all i know. . . is that did did not matter whether he was on your team or not When he hit a Three Pointer . . . You was happy! SWACK!! Rocket River
Rest in Peace Mr. Bol. I just wished you haved lived long enough to still see your country in peace. May your lifetime sacrifices for your country bear fruit soon. I used to be upset with Mr. Bol because he was the one man who gave the Jordan Bulls fits every time they played the Bullets. He blocked shot after shot inside the paint.
REP'd. He reminded me of Deke in terms of his generosity to his country and people only he made a whole lot less money and wasn't nearly as famous or popular yet was equally if not more passionate in terms of his "selflessness" as you mentioned.
Like Mutombo, the man was a selfless humanitarian. Every professional basketball player could learn a lesson from Manute Bol. RIP.
