The way Manu has been playing in the last several months. A cashed up team like the Knicks could drive up his price even more especially if they strike out on signing one of the superstar free agents.
Alot of posters overreacted when they saw the ideas for the new cba and believed 8m would be a max player. Looking at manu's deal, looks like i was right again. Manu earned himself some good money by going into beast mode and in turn making jefferson look better. If they can turn richard jefferson into al jefferson then sign outlaw or thornton to mle money, they would be back in title contention and the rox would be looking up at the spurs and mavs again.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-ginobiliextension040810 Manu Ginobili(notes) underwent a physical Thursday afternoon that revealed no concerning health issues, the last significant hurdle he had to clear before completing his three-year extension with the San Antonio Spurs, league sources said. Spurs officials were working out a couple minor details with Ginobili’s agent, Herb Rudoy, but the extension should be approved by the NBA office early Friday morning. The deal binds Ginobili to the Spurs through the 2012-13 season. He will make $11.9 million next season, a raise from his current $10.7 million. The final two years of the extension call for him to earn $13 million and $14.1 million. Ginobili also will receive a bonus if he’s traded. and can pay him nearly $40 million over the three years. The physical was important given Ginobili’s injuries from the previous two season. Ginobili, who turns 33 in July, had last season cut short by a right ankle injury. He also was slowed by problems with his left foot in the 2008 playoffs and later needed surgery after aggravating the injury in the Beijing Olympics. Ginobili’s strong play over the past two months affirmed the Spurs’ desire to keep him as one of the franchise’s core players.
Well, assuming that the Spurs have to use most of their MLE on bringing Tiago Splitter over next season, San Antonio will be major taxpayers next year. Too bad the Rockets will be over the luxury tax threshold. That tax pot likely just got a bit bigger.
So how does this affect Luis Scola? Manu is a good friend who's getting a big payday. A really big payday. Did Scola's view of his own value just go up?
I think so. This offseason, while exciting for us fans, is gonna be real ugly behind closed doors. Lowry and Scola are both gonna want a raise and Morey might low-ball them. Also, Morey also has his hands full with Yao's situation and renewing his contract.
Still not too much. Scola isn't a Championship winner so He should be fine in the 8-10 mil per range.
This. He's not playing in the World Cup this summer. Sure, a big reason is his having had twins this year, but the Spurs and specifically Pop are no fans of international competition...
