Y! Sources: Manu Ginobili is near agreement on a three year, $40 million contract extension with Spurs. http://tinyurl.com/yek8mnv

WOW I am a bit suprised by this. I know he one of their foundation pieces and has been playing great but that is a lot of coin for an aging player. They will be in LT hell again next season, with an even older Timmy and OKC/Portland/Houston all back at full strength if not stronger.

Seems like they are treating their aging stars a little better than the Rockets organization would.

Surprised, especially considering what Manu said. He wanted to see what offers he would get. But, this deal is too awesome for Manu. Spurs overpaying him for what he's worth, especially at his age.

Sounds a bit overpaid imo. You know Manu is already 33.

I thought earlier this season the Spurs said they would not re-sign him?

I guess his play as of late made them change their mind.

Manu's had one hell of a contract year. He went from having his career in doubt to carry the Spurs on his back into the playoffs. He's been crazy good, especially after the All Star break.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I was dreaming of Manu joining Scola in Houston and making the team Manu-er than before.

Now Scola will join Manu in San Antonio because we cheap!

Damn ... I was hoping we'd be able to get him at a bargain price, but he got himself healthy too soon.

So, he is not going to come to Houston? We have enough SF/SG players, I do not want to have him either

If T-mac and Yao would just have taken us the Finals not even a title they'd be locked up too.

If the Spurs actually paid "market value", as in what Manu could've gotten from another team in the offseason, it doesn't bode well for Yao picking up his option.

If at least one team will pay Manu 3yrs/40mil, then at least one team will pay Yao 5yrs/60-70mil. Yao's younger, a true center, and has marketing pull. If Yao can get that contract on the open market, then there's no financial reason for him to take our 1yr deal.

except Manu is coming off minor injuries. Yao is coming off major surgery.

Yao's not even running on his own yet. Will a team really pay a player that hasn't even stepped back on the court yet?

I don't think he is worth that much, but he does bring international appeal and fan base to the Spurs, so might not be a pure basketball decision.

Spurs had him cheap for awhile there so it evens out. Looks like they will make one last push with that core.

Manu has been playing out of his mind the last couple of months. When healthy he's so sick and fun to watch. He's done a lot for the Spurs organization and deserves every penny of that contract.
