Funny that just last night me and a buddy of mine were talking about how the original Live Aid had all these amazing reunions (Zeppelin, the Who, etc), and all that we were hearing about for Live 8 was a potential Spice Girls reunion. Not quite the same caliber ... But a Pink Floyd reunion -- that's cool. We were also saying last night that a Police reunion for Live 8 would be sweet. Of course, a re-formed Police would probably play London with all the other good acts in Live 8...
I am absolutely stunned! I read some of the details about the lawsuits regarding music rights, property custody, and other stuff thatwere going back and forth when Waters and Floyd broke up. It was really... REALLY ugly. I thought, "there's no way they're ever gonna play again after all that." You can bet your butt they're gonna get a DVD of that performance. (note: The Police never broke up, really. Stewart Copeland said once that Sting wanted to do some solo work and the rest is history. He said he's still waiting for Sting to call him up and do some more Police work.)
Lets hope this inspires a tour. When I was 8-9 I was listening to greenday and all that crap, my dad gave me "animals" and pigs on the wing changed my life. I would sell my soul to see them.
They better! I want to see that. I also got to see them at the dome and Rice stadium and they were incredible. But, Waters adds a dynamic that can't be replaced. IMO, the 'Floyd' sound isn't complete w/o both Gilmour and Waters. I wish I could be there to see that live. EDIT: BTW, any Floyd fans who haven't seen Live at Pompeii need to run out and get a copy pronto. It features studio footage and interviews during the making of Dark Side of the Moon mixed with live concert footage (with no audience but the cameras) in an ancient ampitheater. This is where I really got to see the old Floyd in full creative mode. I had to own the DVD.
Update: Update: Live 8 will be shown on both MTV and VH1 next Sat. July 2 from 11am-7pm. Set those recorders!
