That's a bullshit opener. We are burning more coal as a result of poorly planned policies with hyper optimistic goals over realistic results. Instead of pushing hybrids (credits are phased out)...we want full electric now. Natural Gas and Oil weren't great...we want full solar and wind now.* Even if we replaced coal plants with natural gas or even oil energy plants, we would've seen a dramatic reduction in greenhouse gases and overall air quality. Europe took this route, while flaunting their Clean Energy Creds and now they're emitting the most vile crap all generations recognize as harmful. We've been hammering Trump and Bush for blindly believing in the platform dogma they spew without reconciling it with reality to disastrous consequences. This is our blindspot, and you continuing to push vaporware that's nowhere close to being scalable or profitable for the demands the world needs it to be is a reason why partisan hacks like Granholm continue to helm critical national security agencies that peddles an agenda (not even "policy") that will make middle/lower class Americans hurt in the next couple of quarters. Oh well, this ranting is a few years past due. Nothing they do now will reverse the course likely for the next year. I guess they can tap the SPR bone dry untill the Fuel Low light stops blinking. *buh-but wut about nucular?
I don't see where Biden is actually hampering oil and gas companies. Renewables are a Democrat talking point as much as initiative. He has put a halt on granting drilling leases on federal lands but most production is on private land.
Manchin is just playing to his local WV base when his local WV base should be pissed off at their elected officials not doing more to bring in businesses in growth mode instead of sucking up to good ole boy coal and oil barons. WV citizens are the real suckers here. They’ve been fooled for generations that their way of life in bum Fck America is sustainable without being a part of the global economy. You have beautiful geography. You are a short flight to any major city in the NE. There’s no reason why people wouldn’t want to live there and why businesses wouldn’t want to locate there if there was infrastructure to support it. So really the people of WV shouldn’t be mad at Joe Biden telling the truth… that coal has no future… they should be mad at people like Joe Manchin and their Governor, and their mayors doing nothing to expand infrastructure and bring in businesses from growing industries.
People are moving to West Virginia. They are transitioning to a more tourist area. That being said I really don't understand the coal industry. West Virginia is one of the poorest states regardless Tourism doesn't make wealth but natural resources do. The state shouldn't be poor imo.
What’s a conspiracy theory I believe? That some states like WV could fund rural broadband, but are afraid it’ll attract college educated remote workers who won’t vote Republican. I’m being halfway snarky here but I do believe at some level politicians at the state level concerns themselves a lot about what will or won’t bring in yuppy democrats. I know this for a fact happens in Arkansas where I have some family that lives there and they know several politicians and it’s absolutely a thing there. They have been very concerned about the branding of the “Natural State” drawing in too many liberals who would live out there if they could get access to the needed infrastructure. I think this way a big topic of debate when they were debating the expansion of the Hot Springs airport.
As funny as this post is, I'm totally going to all over CheapOldHouses.com now. But yeah this video pretty much sums up exactly what these guys are afraid will be coming over from the big city to liberalize their precious town. Because that historic 4,000 square foot home was in SUCH great shape before that young liberal woman from the big city came in an remodeled it.
Like most major changes things aren’t even and there are starts stops and backtracks. Even during WWII there were still countries fielding Horse cavalry against tanks. progress is uneven but it is being made but it does take more investment in renewable energy and infrastructure. We are seeing the results but there is obviously a long way to go.
