nWo34Life - were you watching the game that Bill and Calvin called? I watched it on League Pass (and LP rarely gets Bill/Calvin) and I was so frustrated in the second half with the game with the TERRIBLE audio work they did. They were having problems the entire time, and at one point the game was muted. They were fiddling with the audio levels throughout and it was always low (when they cut to commercials I had to lower the volume considerably).
Yeah, the audio has been terrible on all the Bill and Calvin broadcasts I've seen. But as far as the crowd is concerned, they are the quietest in the league. Of all the games I watch that are in different arenas, the crowds seem to go crazy with noise. I hardly even notice the Rockets' crowd. I know that crowds seem louder when you're actually in the arena, but I don't think this some compares to some of the others around the country. It's pathetic. No wonder the Rockets have such an awful home record.
At the end, I noticed that they came back after the commericials after the game, but Jeff H. and the producers had no clue. It could of been the audio, I'm not sure. It just looked on TV that a lot of people left before the game ended. Like I said earlier, majority of them could of been high up in the arena.
Hey guys, I think nWo34Life would know a little more about the intensity of the crowd than the 3 people who went to the game.
what game were you watching...? the crowd wasn't that into it until about the last 4 minutes but then they really really got into it! that was the most excited I've seen them get for anything this season...
Dude come on now. I was listening to it on my small portable radio which only cost me about $14, and I could tell that the crowd got pretty damn loud in the fourth. From the point where the Bulls were almost held under 80 for a free big mac, to the game winning shot and after, the crowd was REALLY into it. Worrel said they were all standing too. WEll, atleast we are past the bashing of out players and coaches....bring on to the fans!
It may be the league pass channel that caused the crowd to appear subdued. For example... Whenever the Braves play the Astros and they were on Ch.20 and TBS simultaneously, the TBS version made the game seem like a morgue compared our local station.
I was watching LP as well and they were for sure having audio problems. But I'm not sure how loud it was when JJ hit the shot, because my wife and I were jumping up and down and hollerin' like crazy!
That's funny, there were audio problems on the local radio station 610. Gene Peterson said they were broadcasting with tin cups.
It's just funny to complain about the lack of noise at the game when you weren't even there. Maybe if you went...
As far as the crowd, the top half was totally packed, but the bottom half had a few seats open, but by the end of the game it looked 3/4 full in the lower bowl. The lower half showed up "casually late"... man I'd love their seats. But seriously, I stood up at the beginning of the 4th and it was a nice size crowd for the Bulls. As far as the noise, I had these two older women behind me yelling the whole time. It was cracking me up. "Go Mobes!" "That's the way, Stevie". Sorry the crowd noise didn't translate to the TV man, but I guess that's the benefit of going to the games, because it was livid at the end of the 4th. People were jumping and high-fiving all over the place after JJ knocked down the shot. You can guarantee wednesday night will be crazy with LA coming.
Well, we'll see how the rest of the home games looks this season. I'm pretty sure most of the corporate seats will be empty and the majority of the crowd will be up in the nosebleeds. It doesn't seem like there's much faith and hope in this team from the city of Houston (until they actually advance to the playoffs). They seriously need to do something about the pricing so we can get more hardcore fans in those seats.
I had the Rockets on the big screen at the no hastle castle and the feed from LP was terrible. The feed from the hawks game was even worse. as far as sound the goes I usually mute the Rockets games unless it's Natl. tv or bill and cal. Just listening to the other commentators makes me sick. If only I could listen to GP call the game, but since I live out west I'm SOL.
There was noise - in bunches.... It got kinda quiet when we lost the big lead, but in last minute or so, it may have been the noisiest I've seen all year. ( tried to post some pictures... clutch on the ladder with the "Noise" sign - - Jackson getting mobbed after the winning shot - but wasn't able to get it done) Jeff - - tried to send some pics to you too... but they bounced.... Maybe try again later.
About the lack of sound on TV/Radio. In the post game (On Toyota court with Cuttino), they gave special credit to some of the tech guys who worked all day on tech problems with audio and computer equipment. Even heard some of the same from the 610 guys on the way back to Austin after the game. they didn't say exactly what the problems were, just that they were lucky to be on the air at all....
Turn your TV up louder, then. Or better yet, get to a game. Everybody who was in the building thought it was a pretty loud crowd. The building was almost sold out (we had some $95 seats and the party suites left, for the most part), and it was Family Pack Night so there were lots of screaming kids, which was great. Kids are loud. We've been getting more and more of them in the building this year. To be honest, people who complain that the crowd isn't loud enough when they're watching from their living room baffle me. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy we have the TV viewers, and happy people are supporting the team. But I've watched hundreds of games on TV and hundreds of games live, and to think that the live crowd experience translates over TV is, well, just flat out wrong. Watching on TV is NOT like being there. Not even close. A debate about crowd noise between people who were in the building and people who watched on TV is silly. It'd be like me debating a movie if I'd only seen stills. Tim
Another thing that some forget is that the microphones used by the tv people and the radio people are designed to pickup only the sounds from the people that are talking into them..and then the audio guys run the signal thru equipment designed to enhance the desired signal(voices) and suppress the extraneos noise(crowd).... this is a fact of live sound reinforcement. .AFAIK, they dont have any omindirectional mikes laying around to pick up crowd noise. So it isnt surprising that you dont get a true feel for how loud a crowd truely is.
