I don't think anyone is saying JVG is a basketball GOD, just a good coach. Rudy was also a very good coach, but his style just didn't suit a young team. His style was more suited for a veteran team. Everything I've read about JVG gives me the impression that he's much more of a 'teacher' than a 'players coach'. Just what this team needs IMO. We've got a young team, a budding superstar at the center position, a different style coach, and (here's the clincher) we didn't exactly lose 60 games last season.
Oops! Did I write the Spurs instead of the Kings? Teehee! Nice to know that some of you will find miniscule things like that to pick at. I want all you optimists to do a couple of things for me. I want you to look at the old bruises and scars on your head after all those nights of banging your head on the coffee table while watching the Rockets bumble their way through games last season. I want you to go out to your poor dog Fluffy’s grave, the same dog you killed after hurling your TV remote across the living room and hitting him in the head with it while the Rockets were losing the final playoff spot to Phoenix. After you do these two things, then tell me honestly that this is a playoff team. There are too many weaknesses on this team to make a playoff run Steve turns it over too much Cuttino never met an 18 foot fadeaway that he didn’t like Taylor must has some severe allergy to paint, because he never goes near it Rice thinks that his only purpose in life is to shoot three pointers Yao is too much of a pansy-ass to take over games, and he gets dunked on more than a cup of coffee in a doughnut shop… And that’s just the starting lineup! Moochie is quite possibly the worst player in NBA history…and that includes Roderick Rhodes! Lebron James will get more playing time in his first game next year than Nachbar got ALL of last season Cato really hustles….for about 10 minutes per game. Nice bang for you buck there Griffin’s jumper is as flat as Bob Hope’s EKG Now, you’re telling me that a bald coach and a former Clipper will vault this team into playoff contention? Last November, when people were predicting 5th and 6th seeds, I was saying that this team wouldn’t make the playoffs. I’m standing by my prediction, and the rest of you will have to deal with a little dose of reality. And no, we DIDN'T miss the playoffs by one game last year. Those last three games we won were the equivalent of summer league games... As for why the Clippers will overtake us, it’s simple: Security: Brand and Magette are both under long term deals, as Odom will soon be. Don’t underestimate the power of financial security. Olowokandi is the most overrated player in the NBA. He’s slow, uncoordinated, and is rivaling Joe Smith as the worst #1 pick ever. The only reason anbody thought he was worth a shotglass full of spit is that the previous best center the Clippers had was a 500 year old Bill Walton with artificial knees. The Clippers are better off with Spud Webb at center. Miller is a LOSER! He was a loser in Cleveland, a loser with the Clippers, and he’ll be a loser with Denver. He took a team on the cusp of the playoffs and drove them into the ground. Even his teammates last year publicly called him out, saying they were more comfortable with Jaric running the point. Addition by subtraction. The Clippers will be in the playoffs, and the Rockets will once again be watching on TV…Write it down! Finally, I’d love to say that I’ll be hanging around here more often, but my new job doesn’t afford me the chance to surf the net for six hours a day like my last job did. Don’t worry sydmill, I know you REALLY love me, though!
A-Train, I respect and read almost every post you write man, and I usually agree w/ it, but im gonna have to disagree w/ u here..... The Rockets are a team that are talented enough to make the playoffs this season as high as the #6 seed. The jazz are not gonna make the playoffs this year and that leaves one ope playoff spot. The rockets are much more talented than the ALWAYS SORRY clippers and even the blazers for that matter. The only team i see standing in our way for the 6th spot will be the Suns. Marbury, Marion, and Stoudemire will provide maybe the only challenge to Yao, Cat, Stevie and the rest of the Rocks in obtaining the 6th playoff spot...... write it down, u heard it here first. On that note.....sonique15 is out.
Hillboy if some of the progress isnt acheived then there will be trouble at the end of the season. If the Guards dont play a new tune and help the Team Game to flourish, expect Francis and Mobley to out and the Club rebuilding arround the Center position in 04/05.
champagne and popouri?? in this forum?? the same one that constantly hates on francis, mobley, and every other rocket exept yao? yikes..
I'm sure the Clippers will be better thanks to a decent coach and some financial security for two or three of its players; but our team will have improved at least that much, probably more, so why even worry about the Clips? As for your attitude, A-Train, I guess we can take it with a grain of salt, but it still sucks. I hope you don't actually call yourself a fan of the Rockets. Predicting they'll be bad just so you can say "I told you so" is not cool. Unless you're hoping for a reverse self-fulfilling prophecy...?
A-Train is hilarious, he really is. I mean, he thinks people are going to consider this a real prediction. You shouldn't heard his posts last season before the Portland and Utah games. He was so worried about what he'd say. God must really love you and have grudge with Rudy...haha. We'll see this time around. If you really think that the Clippers are going to beat us out of the playoffs, then you're running out of excuses to hate on the Rockets man.. As much talent as the Clippers have, let's take a look at their roster: Kaman/Ely/Zhi Zhi Brand/Wilcox Odom/Maggette Maggette/Richardson Jaric/Dooling What are the 2 most important positions in the NBA? You say we have the worst Forwards in the league? Well the Clippers have the worst PG rotation and the worst C rotation in the entire league. Ofcourse, this is if they infact will match Miami's offer. Let's see what you think if they actually lose Odom.
A-Train: You are calling out Miller as being a life-time loser because he played on losing teams. What about Brand. The same thing applies to him. If your logic is true then how in the whole wide world would the Clippers eclipse the Rox with a loser Brand leading their way??? The Rockets can beat the Clippers with Turbo, Clutch the bear, Lisa Molasky, the water boy and JVG on the court.
The Clips??? The Los Angeles Clippers!!! lol.. Just because Sterling is finally spending money doesn't mean they will get into the playoffs. They still have Brand and Magette, and possibly Odom, but they lost their starting PG and C, the two most important positions on the court.
The Clippers beater than us after losing their starting PG and C and not gotten anyone to replace them That's either a joke or its the stupidest thing I have ever heard lol
Did you really say Denver and Cleveland? I can see Cleveland maybe, but when Denver is still losing 50+ games in 3 years because they can't surround Anthony with any talent do you really think he'll stick around? Lets not forget GS and their Webber rising up days.
Oh, I understand cycles very well. In fact, one could very well argue that the Rockets have been trapped in a "cycle" of mediocrity for the past 8 years. Look at Dallas. They were trapped in their "cycle" of pathetic ineptness for over 10 years. It took a determined owner and coach to lift them out of the muck to where they are today. Did they make mistakes? Most definitely but they have been able to show positive improvement on the court and in the standings where it counts the most. My point is that the time has past for excuses from this team and organization. If they are as committed to winning and excellence that they say they are, then we should be seeing the results on the court this season. Oh, and the first EXCUSE that needs to be dropped is that this is a "young" team. Of the starters, only Yao can be considered a young player as this is his 2nd year.
That's what it takes Hillboy, about eight to ten. What do you expect? That every team in the NBA is going to be a dominant playoff force every year. Not the Bulls, Not the Lakers, Not the Knicks, not in a salary cap sport. In Baseball and in the Premeirship it is possible because the Yanks and Man U can put up big dollars every year to have the best teams but it is simply not possible for the NBA. Have patience, stop whining about mediocrity when your team won the championship within the last decade. Only three other cities can say that. And you have to be completely daft to say that the Rockets aren't young. They are one of the youngest teams in the NBA and their core is aged as follows: SF - 26 CM - 27 EG - 21 YM - 22 KC - 28 MoT - 26 No one over thirty. Michael Jordan's age at time of first championship - 27. When SF is 27 our whole team will just be ripening to be great. Yao is a great player and gained infinitely in confidence after his first year. In another season he will be unstoppable. Shaq is already in decline. Duncan will not be able to defend him. JVG will get him the ball. Naysayers beware the Rocks are Rising!
You get alot of brown nosing around here and you aren't even a mod. Wow A-Train. You don't even have a five digit post count like HeyPee or RM95 and still you get the red carpet. You're a funny man Train, but you won't be able to stop my mighty Chinaman when he gets to stompin' next year!
Jealous? A-Train is Running with Scissors! Who is giving him the red carpet? You are a funny man yourself!
I totally disagreed with you. Other than the not signing of Posey and a quality PG, we have pretty good personnels on the team. JVG, checked Good system, checked Cat & SF, checked Stronger Yao, checked Good big man coach, Patrick Ewing, checked New Uniform, checked New Arena, Checked There's so many good things going for the Rockets, I can't wait for next season! My predication: Lakers Spurs, Rockets, Mavs, Wolves, Suns, Blazers, Clippers
