Definitely arguable...but I wouldn't use Time as a reason...They're historically geo-centric, although not as bad as some. But Einstein is, IMO, one of the better choices.
lol..I didn't even know you had picked Einstein. (edit...You carefully disguised your choice with the words " Albert Einstein" in an earlier post...clearly, I am drunk. The roomies have gotten this new drink mixer thingie for daiquiris, etc...and are experimenting. Also, I am somewhat under other influences...the combination of which might otherwise explain my missing your earlier post, except it probably would come down to the fact that I'm an idiot anyways....whoo boy...hang on, they're calling me down for more...) But no matter, he's one of the top candidates, IMO, and I certainly wouldn't argue against anyone picking him. My favorite aspect of Einstein is in the way he both exemplifies and defies our stereotype fo the brilliant scientist. He pretty much defined the look, and is thought by many people to be a walking computer, but in reality he was incredibly philosophical, and almost all of his physical accomplishments had metaphysical motivations. Absolutely brilliant mind...he says, as though that were somehow a novel thought about Einstien...sigh...
I forgot to put a smilie face on that last post "A person first starts to live when he can live outside himself, when he can have as much regard for his fellow man as he does for himself. Life is a gift and if we agree to accept it we must contribute in return. When we fail to contribute we fail to adequately explain why we are here." "It is always a question of mankind itself. Man and his fate must always be the center of scientific endeavors with all our geometric diagrams & equations we should never forget that." Albert Einstein Also: "Einstein has made a universe & I can't tell you how long it will last." G. B. Shaw
Roundtable Interview With John Lennon by Samuel Beckett http://www.haplessdilettante.com/toc2.html?lennon.html~top.body
I went with Lenin. As great an effect as Stalin had on the century, he was really just a successor to Lenin. Mao, Stalin, Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Kim, who would have heard of any of these guys if Lenin had not led a revolution of the people against the Czar?
I voted Einstein without a 2nd thought...and before I read Time chose him as well. Maybe its my science schooling, but maybe not, since I doubt there are many "science schooled people" on these boards and yet Einstein is winning. Just like any college, I'd wager there are more business degree holders on these forums than anything else. I should make a poll on it. Hmm..
i'm gonna go with my boy Einstein. when you love math and astronomy, who else is your boy gonna be but Einstein (i don't capitalize anything but i'm still capitalizing his name). the fact that technology has grown by such enormous leaps and bounds and we can now test so many things related to physics and other scientific fields and yet so many of Einstein's ideas have held up is amazing. and the respect he engenders in the field. i was reading some article and some experiment had brought up the possibility of something not allowed by Einstein's equations and the scientist's quote when the interviewer brought it up was almost like "holy crap! no. don't say we're disagreeing with Einstein here. we'd like to have careers later. forgive us o great one." and this guy was obviously a smart dude, but he wasn't going up against Einstein. science is all about disproving theories and coming up with new ones and yet with Einstein it's almost like everyone instead seeks to make sure he was right, b/c they'd like to think he was just that damn smart. anyway, i'm voting for Einstein b/c i think he was actually the man of the century (though i give gandhi and mlk some props), not the guy who influenced politics the most or is responsible for the most deaths.
I'm the only one who's voted for Nelson Mandela so far? Funny, I thought he'd get more love than that. Guess everybody just has really different criteria.
Being as objective as possible, I chose Gandhi. The man made a few mistakes, but the manner in which he helped achieve India's independence is one of the greatest underdog stories ever.
