Actually, I take that back. You are wrong. That is all. So is Casey H. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Period. End of story. This is completely unacceptable, and so are conditions in slaughterhouses. And, to be honest, I'll take animals any day over many people. What kind of harm do animals bring? There's a segment of the population that lie, steal, harass, belittle, kill, maim, injure, assault, and do unspeakable things every single day. I put animals over them any single day.

Good analogy. There are probably tons of other similar analogies that would make sense.

This isn't about the meat industry. It brings to light interesting facts about the meat industry, and one can certainly argue against its methods, but those methods being legal or carrying lighter sentences in certain cases does not impact this event.

This is about this one guy and animal torture. Five years seems appropriate. I could never say it was too harsh - the most I could say is it may have been a little misdirected, in that the guy is clearly crazy, and perhaps mental institution would have been better?? His emotional "I'm about to have a child plea" is laughable - even more reason not to let you stay out in public, and impart your clearly messed up views on a child.

Look, you and I and everyone else all know it takes a special kind of sicko to do what this guy did. Clearly it's not the same as doing something similar to another human being, but it certainly speaks, to me, of a mindset that isn't far away from that, and I find that scary.

Anyone know if the amount of money the calf was worth or would have made the farm over it's lifetime could have played a role in the sentencing? I have no idea what that figure would be....

    Couldn't have said it myself.

Cruelty to a defenseless animal who can't do anything to prevent it is one of the worst crimes IMO. Makes me soooooooooooooo mad and sick.

The harsher the punishment for these types of crime, the better.

    What is a defenseless animal?

How is this killing of an animal different?
