    Question of the Day...

...what would the police/legal system have done if instead of locking the guy in the bus after he decapitated the kid, a group of passengers went inside with their crowbars (which were given to them by a passing trucker) and beat the crazy guy to the point of near-death?

If you really want one, there are obviously ways. But I personally don't know anybody and have never known anybody with a non-hunting gun.

Edit...While it's true that guns don't kill people, people kill people...it's also true that if this guy had a gun, there would have been many more deaths.

True, but you still have people doing stuff like this with knives, bombs, whatever. If someone snaps or is crazy and want to go on a rampage, they will do it. Even they have to resort to hitting people in the head with a big rock.

As far as what I would do if I was on the bus? I would probably get out as fast as I can. Not because I didn't care about the victim, but if the guy was so calm in stabbing this poor fellow, then he probably will be pretty calm in stabbing me too. Thinking you will "run up and hit him in the back of the head" to knock him out reeks of watching too many movies. In that narrow walkway of a bus, he would see you coming, stab you before you got within 2 feet of him and then they would be picking up 2 dead bodies instead of one.

I have struggled with the idea of killing the mentally unstable who were violent. My stance right now is that they should be executed. They can't be trusted in society, locking them up in an institution, all drugged up so they won't kill anyone isn't exactly living anyway. Not sure what the point is of keeping them alive. Sounds cruel, but seriously, you have effectively ended their life already by locking them up for life and drugged up, so what is the difference?

I'm not going to get back into the gun debate here.

All I'll say is I'll be switching from ankle carry to hip carry for awhile.

RIP kid. Nobody deserves what you got.

I can only wish a licensed concealed carrier was on the bus to help you out in some way.

What does it take to be charged with first degree murder?

We’re starting to learn about the murder’s history now. He moved to Winnipeg from China in 2004, and then later moved to Edmonton. He was married, and there were some indications of mental illness in the weeks before the incident.

He savagely attacked his victim who I think was probably dead before anyone really knew what was going on. On the gun issue, it would have been very difficult for a guy like this to get his hands on a gun in Canada, and that's a very good thing. I shudder to think of how may people might have been killed if he'd started shooting from the back of that bus.

We need Jason Bourne for that.

I *just* got off greyhound when I heard the news from a friend. And it sent a chill through my body.

Also, not sure why he didn't leave the scene since the police didn't arrive until after ten minutes. Yes, the door was blocked, but there are afterall emergency exits on both sides of the bus. I guess he was clearly too mentally delusional to figure that out.

Why would you think he'd want to escape? To do a murder like that in front of everyone and then revel in the mutilation of the body, it'd seem he wants everyone to know he did it.

it says in the news story that he wants to get off the bus but they blocked the door. So he wanted to drive the bus but it got disabled by the driver. That leaves the emergency exit, which should always work.

He won’t be killed, of course. He’s going to have to live with what he did behind bars.

One of the cops said when he was still on the bus...the only thing he said was he was going to stay on the bus forever or something. Definitely quite a few screws loose up there in his head. I wish he would have just stabbed himself on that bus.

    sherman helmsley...

speakign of PCP, thats the probably the worst drug you can take. It can act up on you at any time cuz it gets stored in your fat. It can randomly be released years after you quit using it.
