I guess the good news is that terrorist are once again resorting to trying to blow up planes instead of crashing them into buildings.
No such thing? ROFL http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/terror_suspect_identified_as_son_kAfc7v8qHr1gFAPt9cQFjJ
He was apparently on a watch-list but not the no-fly list. The watch list has half a million people on it, and I imagine there's a range of people on there from "he's deadly as hell" to "seems sketchy, but no suspicion of wrongdoing". It seems like it should have been flagged that he was coming into the country (and probably shouldn't have been granted a Visa), and maybe gotten extra security screening, but I don't know that there's much more that should be expected. There are probably a bunch of innocent people on that list (I think some US Senator or Rep was on it at one point), so you can't just prevent everyone from flying unless you're willing to open up a huge can of worms.
Even if you're on the watch list, you shouldn't be able to check-in and get issued a boarding pass without the special screening they have: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_Security_Screening_Selection And Senator Ted Kennedy was only delayed at airports because "T. Kennedy" was an alias of some terrorist. He was still able to get on because he could prove he was a US Senator and that his real name was Edward Kennedy.
Guys, it's all in the fine print. The "no fly" means "nowhere except maybe Detroit; that would be okay because they need people to go there, and we mean any people whatsoever." Also, breaking movie footage, courtesy FOX News. Unbelievable!
After 9/11 they've told flight crews that their only concern is the security of the plane and not the passengers. So in a hijacking event under no circumstances are they to unlock the cockpit even if the hijackers are massacring passengers. Its likely that Al Qaeda, if this is Al Qaeda, has adjusted tactics to settle for blowing the plane up over a population center than to try to hijack it.
Here are some more details: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/...ails-on-watch-lists-alphabet-soup.php?ref=fpa A frequent question being asked following the failed Flight 253 terrorist attack on Christmas Day is why wasn't suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's name on the watch lists that could have prevented the transport of explosive material in a second screening. President Obama has ordered a review into the travel security and watch-listing procedures, and an administration official detailed for TPMDC the multiple agencies what the review will examine. An administration official told us there are more than 400,000 people in the Terrorist Screening Data Base (TSDB), which is the United States' main identities database for international terrorism. That list is a subset of the 550,000 people contained in the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (TIDE), which is the Intelligence Community's central repository of information on known and suspected international terrorists, the administration says. The official said fewer than 4,000 of the names in the TSDB appear on the "No Fly" list. Another 14,000 names are on the "Selectee" list, which calls for mandatory secondary screening during travel. After Abdulmutallab's father spoke to the US Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, the U.S. shared the information with multiple government ageinces. That created a TIDE record for Abdulmutallab in November 2009, the official said. But there there was insufficient information at that time based on the existing watch list criteria to include Abdulmutallab on the terrorist watch list, the no fly list or the mandatory secondary screening list, the official said. The criterion will be part of the review Obama ordered, and the president wants an accounting of all the decisions related to the inclusion of Abdulmutallab's name. There are several agencies involved in the watch-listing process, including the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center, the National Counterterrorism Center, the Department of Homeland Security and State Department and other agencies within the Intelligence community.
This is horrible. Hopefully we don't have to go and occupy Yemen until they become democrats over this. I'm afraid that sooner or later as we keep killing Pakistanis with drones that we will get a Pakistani who will try to do something similar and then we will have to try and occupy Pakistan with the "volunteer" army. Seriously something has to be done, if possible, but I don't think running around killing folks with drones in numerous countries fits the bill. I see Lieberman is hot to go occupy Yemen or rebuild it or something with other people's children. I am happy to see that we don't have any of the usual posts yet saying that we should go to Yemen and cut their balls off and then bury them with pigs blood etc. Merry Christmas.
Time for the USA to have US security or qualified approved security on any plane that is flying into this country.....
Do you have any suggestions on what to do about Yemen instead of just saying what not to do? Give a "yes" on something instead of just "no". You remind me of a certain group of people in this country who love opposing ideas but don't offer solutions to problems.
