The only thing I can attribute this discrepancy to is that Head is a set-shooter. He needs his feet set and the distance set before he can knock them down at a high clip. For 3s, he's money, because most of the 3s are taken when he's not on the move.

The midrange game is totally different in the sense that there is almost no set distance. You have to adjust to how the defense plays you, especially as a guard, because you can pull up at 15, pull up at 18, pull up at 12, 20 or whatever. That's where Head's shooting weakness lies, in the sense that he's not a good judge of how much to put into his shot, as compared to just chucking it up with everything he's got when he's takings 3s.

If he develops a pull-up midrange game, I can't see why he can't be as good as Deron Williams, if not Ben Gordon, offensively. He probably won't be the same type of finisher as Ben Gordon is, just because Gordon's so much stronger physically, but he can be pretty darn close in the way he plays.

i would love to see him develop a mid-range shot. he is fast enough to come off a double pick, a la rip hamilton, for an easy shot.

i agree, but if Luther really wants to excell in this league, his future will have to be at the point. His assists are way down this season.

If head can develope a more solid mid range game along with improving his handels, i would start him over rafer. use rafer as a scoring option off the bench. rafer is better uited at being an impact player.

I think Rafer is less consistent than Luther in terms of scoring. Rafer is good at handling. It seems that JVG has decided to let rafer bring the ball across the half court and then let tmac be the playmaker.

Luther has been huge off the bench this year for the Rockets. No question about it. I would like to see him continue to play for the Rockets. To me Luther is right now, what he will be in this league. Which is a nice role player off the bench to provide scoring from the wing.

But I dont think he is a starter. So if an opportunity presents itself where the Rockets could add another 'starter' type piece to the team, and we had to move Luther, I would do it.

But Luther was great last night against the Wizards, particularly in the 4th quarter. Props to him!

Me I would have easily thrown Head in on a good trade last year. I would not have given him away, but he was one of our few trading chips.

He plays a good role, but really does not have a position. His role of three point shooter and decent defender fits us real well. But I don't think our offfense runs smoothly when Head plays PG. He will allways be undersized as a two.

Edit - Oh yea, unless it had been a really good trade (say someone like Bonzi Wells  ), it would have been a mistake to let Luther go. Of course I was in the 'don't draft Yao' camp - so I guess I'll never get the GM job.

There must have been 50 posts a day in the offseason throwing Head in to a deal that got rid of Howard...

Luthaaa is a keeper. He's our best 6th man !!!
Watch out , once he learns the one position and run the offense, I can certainly see Rafer coming off the bench :)
