    HP,
Nowhere in my post did I mention Mobley stunting Francis' devt. What I meant was that we are full of scorers: Mo, Dream (yes at times), Walt, and of course, Steve. Mobley does not have to force up shots and be the hero. He would be much more effective passing out of double teams.

As for the "go-to-guy" I don't think there is a designated person on the Rox, other than Steve. I think the go-to guy should be the guy with the best look- the one who's open. These guys can all hit the open 15-footer,just drive and dish.

Francis is a pg, if he is a true point guard, he shouldn't be leading the team in scoring.

I will root for anyone in a Rocket uniform, but I think Cuttino is a guy who likes to pad his stats. He's a good player and seems like a very nice guy.

If you don't think Cat is a go-to guy, then you haven't watched any games. A team can have more than one go-to guy, but right now Cat is first option. Also, teams need a go-to guy or guys. Just ask Portland.

What double teams?? 8 out of 10 times he is isolating his man and taking him to the hole and as long as he gets a good look and keeps hitting the runner off the glass, I say let him. Mobley is most effective running the break and taking his man off the dribble. If he starts making poor decisions, which I haven't seen him make many thus far, then we'll talk.

Portland's problem is that they have too many "go-to" guys, none of whom seemed capable of stepping up when the chips were on the line last year in game 7.

As long as Mobes is playing as well as he has been, I'm happy to have him as one of our #1 options (I'd still like to see Stevie with the ball more often in the fourth quarter). Along with improving his scoring (from 16 to 18 ppg), Cuttino is rebounding better (4.4 compared to 3.6), turning the ball over less (1.8 compared to 2.3 last year) and shooting straighter (46%, up from 43% last season). I'd still like to see him pass more, but that's not what Rudy calls for him to do.

Regarding Worrell's comment about Kobe being the only SG scoring more than Mobley, what position do the following play?

    Vince Carter
    Reggie Miller
    Jerry Stackhouse
    Allen Iverson
    Ray Allen
    Allen Houston
    Predrag Stojakovic

I would venture to say that Carter may be considered a SF but all of the others should be considered SG. They all score more than Mobley. Perhaps Worrell was discounting Stojakovic and MEANT to say, "In the Western Conference".

So you are saying that Gary Payton is not a true point guard although he leads his team in scoring as well as assists and steals?

Sam, I disagree about Portland. They have no go-to guy. They have plenty of scorers, but they don't have one who demands the ball when the game is on the line. There is a big difference between players who get their points in the first 3 1/2 quarters and the ones who step up with the game on the line.

Moe, no we agree. That's why I put "go-to" in quotes. Guys like Quitten and Steve Smith and especially Rasheed are hyped as go-to players, but the fact is that none of them have "it": that quality that makes a guy demand the ball and then hit the big shot, time after time. Jordan had "it" and so do guys like Reggie Miller and Tim Duncan. Even a punk like John Stockton seems to take and hit the big shots when his team needs it, time after time. I used to think Damon Stoudamire had "it", back when he played with Toronto, but he's relegated to a 4th or 5th option during the rare times when he's even on the floor in the fourth quarter.

Maybe he meant in the Western Conference and Pedro is listed as a forward for the Kings.

Upon even further review...Dream agrees Cuttino is a GO-TO.

As for Portland Steve Smith *is* a Goto guy
    He WAS Atlanta

but the other players on his team
won't give him the fr*ckin ball
    because they wanne be heroes
[and he doesn yell, grimace and bullsh*t
enough for people to realize just how
    fr*cking good he is]

Cato13, the bottom line is I want the team to win. A true point guards job, imho, is to distribute the ball.

payton does EVERYTHING for the Sonics. It's in his nature, and he's a very talented player. I would hate to be the SG who plays alongside him, if I were into scoring.

If Steve Smith (whom I like) were really a go-to guy, Portland would have gone to him, and he would have delivered. I don't remember anybody during that 7th game, 4th quarter collapse that had that look of wanting the ball. I think Wallace took most of the shots, but after a couple of misses, he didn't really look like he wanted it.

I'm willing to agree that Cuttino looks to get noticed, and that includes being concerned about his scoring average. Part of that I'm sure comes from being insulted by the league in his draft position.

Regardless, he does indeed hate to lose, and ultimately will learn that he doesn't need to pad stats. Although I will yell at him for the way he "runs" fast breaks and for picking without a purpose other than to get the roll, I have a lot of patience for him, becuase I'm the eternal optimist whenever I see fire in a player and love for the game.
