With those stats, why did he only play 13 minutes. Those folks don't play the same game we do, do they?
Well, I didn't watch the game, but his coach is quoted in the game report, that he took Malick out because he was in foul trouble too early. And concerning playing time, keep in mind that the games in the BBL are only played 10 minutes a quarter.
It's interesting that people are so down on Malik because of his stats. Two foreign players , both older than Malick, who play power forward are projected to go in the top ten in the draft this year- Tiago Splitter and Fran Vasquez. Both averaged less than 9 points and 5 rebounds a game for their European teams this year , which is about what Malick is averaging in the playoffs this year. He's had so little experience, that's it's not a stretch to think he can develop into a player that can eventually contribute.
Dont forget the ever popular Nikolz Shiktizhvili or whatever the hell his name was. He was drafted number 5 ahead of Boki and he was Boki's Backup and barely played...all just hoping he would be a 7 footer with range and crap...the euro prospects are getting worse and worse cause they take anyone with size and an ounce of skill. Back in the day they would only take the cream of the crop. The Jordans of Europe etc. Now with a couple of lucky finds, Nowitzki, Paker and others..they are flocking for anyone that comes out....really jacks up the draft in my opinion.
I understand that but at the same time i think there is a higher percentage of no named players with little experience that get drafted high out of europe or high school based on only potential. When there are so many college guys that have had a lot of training and development that get drafted lower and end up panning out. I guess it's not so much as a european vs american bust factor is more of a high schooler and european player that rides the pine and plays 2 minutes a game vs expereinced college players. bust ratio to me The whole potential thing based on a few people that panned out is ridicoulus to me that's all.
We may be talking about 2 different sets of stats. What I see quoted here for MB is from the BundesLeague championships. This IMHO is several steps down from the EUROLeague championships which may be where the stats for Splitter and Vasquez come from. The Opel Skyliners were 4-10 in their bracket of the EuroLeague. IOW, Opel (Frankfurt) may be one of the two best teams in Deutschland but they were pretty far down there in all of Europe. Stated another way, EUROLeague stats would be more impressive than BundesLeague stats.
Yeah, but this are the semi-finals and Frankfurt is playing ALBA Berlin, which was the by far the best team of Germany in the last 10 years. So I think considering that this are the playoffs I would say, that the level of competition is NOT several steps down. Maybe it's a step, maybe it's not. Malick played 3 games only in the Euroleague. He averaged 5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 spg, 1.6 bpg in just 22 mpg. I think that's solid considering he had some injury problems.
