This is another problem. When I planned my Asia trip I was presuming things would be slow with work as December and January are usually slow times for my business but we have a project that I was managing that has dragged on and people are panicking over. The person I have filling in for me doesn't have much knowledge about it so our client wants me back as soon as possible to get the project back on track. No kids and no serious significant other. There are several times I think about just dropping everything and going away particularly when work is stressful and its minus 5 outside but its not often there is such a beautiful motivation.. Good luck to you to on that.
That's the thing. Some opportunities don't come around often, but if you're constantly doing different things then the opportunities show itself. I just got out of college recently so any change will seem big to me. If I were in your shoes, my pragmatic side would figure how much I'd lose from business and mortgage, but if I had the skills to support myself from ground up, I think I'd go for it, look for the best, and hope I wouldn't lose a kidney in the process. Some Asians look years younger. If I dated girls who were the age of my looks, I'd be a pedophile. The catch is when girls are older than they look. I wonder if that'd make me a closet pedo. Not that I think about this often or want to...
Exactly. And if you think 37 going on 27 is impressive.. I'm 26 and I look 16. Hell, if I keep the pounds off I'd probably hit 36 and still look 16
No amount of money can buy you a girl that doesn't care how much money you have. If you are really interested in this girl, you could make it work.
Whoa... gentlemen, please.. There was no offense intended. I was being more defensive than anything in your lovely quotes there. I just felt that he was short-selling the musical potential and promise as a musician if he had attended and graduated from Berklee, by envying his two friends there.. For missing out on 5 star hotels, six figures a year and national exposure on American Idol.. I take it as personally depressing as when I hear a student of Juilliard performing at weddings.. Finances, luxury and the limelight(if backup performing to Britney and 'Idols' qualifies) all things to envy to be sure.. I just find it a tad offensive when a musician looks back throughout his pursuit and of all things.. envies these two "musical" possibilities the most from his colleagues. Perhaps.. I should've said ,"to each their own", instead.. My apologies.
If you are good, you would bring her back to the states with you! oh and post her picture! Good Luck!
Not exactly "chucking" it all but I have been in IT for 20yrs and make a good salary -- but I have gone back to college (at night) for Early Childhood Education and have an interview to work part time (while keeping my full time IT job) at an over night center for kids in crisis. My goal is to keep my IT job long enough to be completely out of debt. Sort of controlled chucking.
I hope you're not an only son, I can imagine the conversations you have with your parents and the amount of times "say jai" gets used.
BTW, I think there was at least 20 man laws broken here in this thread. Sounds like everyone needs a hugging session with Danny.
Let me tell you my translucent friend if you're just graduating college now is the time to take those kind of big changes. If I had just graduated instead of having worked for several years and bought a house I would still be in Sri Lanka right now. I can tell you things look different when you have to send in that mortgage check every year. As for the Before Sunrise situation I should've said "while not rare they aren't all that common." Its not like every time you go hang out at a bar or a hostel you meet some hot chick and spend some quality time together but its not unusual. If you're travelling alone or with only a few people and willing to rough it a little you meet a lot of interesting and like minded people and since you're all on the road inhibitions are a little down because its not like you're going to have to work with these people or their related to your boss.
Got it and sent you a response. Give me a call when you know what you're work plans are. I'm using someone else's phone so I don't know the functions that well but can try to SMS you.
Sorry don't have a pic of her as I didn't have my camera with me that night. The pic that Univac posted earlier in the thread though is close. I have her contact info and am trying to convince her to come to the US. Yeah my mom has been trying to get me hitched.
Semi-related, and I don't mean to derail, but there's this book: What Should I Do With My Life It's not a motivational, Tony Robbins-type book. Rather just a compilation of real stories of people who at one point in their life stopped everything to make a total change. I don't think they're all success stories either, it just follows people, and sees why and how they made a major life change. I never read it, but I've been meaning to. This thread has inspired me to check it out after finishing my current book. It was a top 20 bestseller for a long time a few years ago.
Follow up. I just got an email back from her. She said she is Holland on her way back to Suriname to attend to some family stuff but was glad to hear from me and when she gave me her contact info didn't expect that I would contact her. Said she will try to make it to the US but it will be tough but she'll tell me about her trip to Suriname and let me know how nice things back in Sri Lanka when she gets back. I'm about to head to the airport for my flight back to the US, 24 hours of travelling coming up on crappy United Airlines, but that really made my day. Suriname is in the Western Hemisphere so maybe I will pull a Harold and Kumar and see about visiting Suriname..
