this is why i think USC is overrated. because of this kind of talk. the greatest team of all time...that nearly got run over by Fresno State. that gave up over 400 yards offense to that team. that little bit they have on ESPN about whether or not the great teams of all time would be able to beat USC is just tremendously funny to me.
haha, I can't believe you compared USC/Texas to SC/Lufkin, just because that's so random. But, yeah, the guys just can't seem to beat those rich boys with their professional-quality training facilities.
No I don't think programs just win or lose because of coaching, but a team NEEDS to have a good coach to be successful, would you agree? You've been trying to argue that UT's success can't be attributed to Mack Brown and that it's all due to talent. Well someone has to recruit that talent and make them a team, it doesn't happen by itself. You said that Mack Brown is just an average coach and that if he was going for a 3rd straight championship, you'd have to change your mind. So my question to you is: Who do you consider an "above average" coach? Do you know anything about college football? Or are you another UT-hater that pops into threads just for rants?
i read a rumor on a message board that griffin, and taylor will be charged after they play in in the Rose Bowl. That is sooooooooo disgusting. They need to be locked up now, even though we don't know what happen. Remember, Guilty, til we prove you innocent, or can plant evidence.
Isn't it great, we are about to find out. Would you agree that if USC runs all over UT that they will live up to their billing? If UT runs all over them, then I will admit they were overrated. Flip the coin and get this one started, just about the only sports fun we have going right now.
No. If UT wins you have to admit that USC overrated not only if UT runs over USC. If USC is the greatest team of all time they should easily be able to take care of UT, no? By your token if UT wins shouldn't they be considered one of the best teams of all time?
I do not believe a college football program necessarily needs good x's and o's coaching to be successful. I think Mack Brown is an incredible recruiter, I just think his coaching is average. I don't think it's possible for a college team in this era to amass so much more talent than everyone else to be able to out talent its way to three straight national titles. That's why I said that. Is it really your contention that UT is on the verge of a National Championship because Mack Brown is just a lot better coach this year? How many conference titles did Mack win before this season? The coach with the 5th greatest winning percentage over a 5 year span in history can't win a conference title until Vince Young emerges as one of top two or three players in all of college football? I think it's a fair statement to say that UT has top 10 talent year in and year out. Do you know Mack's record at UT against top 10 teams? 5 wins, 10 losses. That includes the 2-0 this year. The only times Mack can beat Oklahoma is when they're not ranked. Why is that? Mack is just really coaching his butt off this year though I suppose. It really takes a hater to point out the history, otherwise none of it would really be true. Right?
Part of the "greatest" of all time is talk because of the fact that they've already won two national titles and are trying to become the first ever to 3peat. If they haven't done that ESPN would not be doing all of what theyre doing. But lets get real if USC defeats Texas. They might not be the single greatest team ever but they have to be arguably the best team over any 3 year period. And USC might be overrated as a whole. But there is no way that they're overrated on offense.
Winning solves everything. Not to long ago UT fans were calling for his head and wanted steve spurrier in Austin. Now Brown is as good as anybody in their mind. And thats not a knock on UT fans. Thats just how everybody is.
Don't take it that seriously -LHS fan, my daughter is a 97 LHS grad. Outlaw is an awesome coach and year after year his teams are just scary.
honestly, i don't see it that way because i'm not making claims that UT is among the greatest teams of all time. i think USC is a very, very good program. but the notion that they're such a sure thing matched up hypothetically against previous champions?? please. did anyone think ohio state was better than miami a few years back? where were the "experts" on that one? and had miami won a game they should have won, that team would have gotten that kind of label as well. they didn't win that ONE GAME, so they're an after-thought. it's all very silly if you ask me. don't get me wrong...i think this will be a tough/tight game. i hope like hell that UT can win. i'm not about to tell you USC isn't a very good football team. but i will say they're not incapable of being beat. that's the kind of thing i hear being said...or at least alluded to.
